The Dreamer's POV

Chapter 264 What oneness?

"Dark Flames." I called out, and true to my words, the flames birthed on my Wyvern Blade. There was a beautiful harmony to it, a dark unearthly flame ablaze on a blade that was all wyvern scales but the blade.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

I felt the eyes of Suphas at me, and I returned the favor.

"You are a persistent stubborn one, like the fleas that wouldn't leave the city's inhabitants."

'The city's inhabitants? Oh…' I soon realized that it was referring to those that were of the city before it, before the appearance of the ghostwaves.

"Riddle me this. Who came first? The Emonis or the ghostwaves?" It asked with a voice that was as deep, and loud as ever that it might very well shake my bones.

'I'm under no obligation to answer that.'

We both remained silent, unmoving. Though I wasn't going to answer, I was more than curious about what the answer to the riddle was that I began guessing, but only within me.

"Wrong!" It cried out with that deep voice of it like it scolded me. I had not even spoken, I hadn't given an answer nor did I intend to.

"Both, both were first for we are the people, we are of the Emoni's essence."

'Hmm? What is it talking about?' Who came first?'

"That's enough." It said sharply, and immediately, it raised its tail for the very first time since the start of our battle and at the center of the scorpion shaped sting, grew a purple energy of blinding light.

The energy grew as a ball atop the tail and then it dispersed, breaking off to dozens streaks of energy. These blasts were fast, much faster than the previous, and though, I had anticipated the move, I couldn't teleport away in time, I was frozen to the speed of the blasts.

However, my primal survival instincts kicked in, and Haven came atop it, shielding me from about a dozen of the attacks that came at me.

BOOM!

They all struck in unison, and I was thrown back, twirling within and hitting the sides of my energy shield. I was afloat, with <Grand Flight> active, but the collision of the attack torpedoed me away and sent me falling within my Haven.

And then, I crashed, but I was safe, I was lucky to have been curious about improving the strength of Haven, and I was lucky that my hypothesis was correct.

I was disoriented and stunned momentarily within the energy shield, but I recovered fast to see a massive shadow below that wasn't my own, and instantly I knew, and I reacted just in time.

<Grand Teleportation>

I was atop the creature's head, I had intended to teleport right on it, but something had been repelling me against doing that.

I raised my blades that were lit with dark flames and I was about to send down a burst of the flames, but the same multitude of purple energy came my way. This time I had learnt, and I knew of how fast it was. With this knowledge, I found that I could react in time and escape the dozens of energy that threatened to blow me apart.

I disappeared soon as I appeared, and I watched the beams blow off at the place I was.

'At least they are not trailing.'

At least they weren't, if they were, chances were that I would be a goner already.

Seeing the energy projectiles go off, I caught sight of the surroundings for the very time since our battle began.

It was hell. The sturdy uniform buildings of concrete were broken and they were lit in flames. Destruction and flames were all that I could see in place of where the buildings were.

My eyes widened, I wasn't surprised nor shocked, I just realized the destructive capacity of this creature and how Haven had managed to protect me against its incredibly destructive blasts. It was insane. A boss that was capable of destroying a city.

It arched once more, directing its tail and once again, it sent its wave of condensed energy right at me, and once again, I utilized <Grand Teleportation> to get out of harm's way.

Those blasts were incredibly destructive, meaning they packed quite the amount of energy in them.

'Just how hasn't it exhausted its energy reserve?'

It had to be capable of recovering energy, and also, it had to be at a much faster rate than my <Grand Energy Recovery Necklace> which was incredibly fast in recovering my energy, but would be lacking were I to execute energy blasts as it did.

The more I fought the thing, the more awe-inspiring it got. It was like the Trent of floor one was a test, and this one was the first course of the real deal.

"Aren't you worried about hurting your buddies? There are other ghostwaves in the city you know." I cried hoping it would hear my poor attempt at taunting it.

"Fool! The ghostwaves are one, they had all become a part of me since this fight began."

'Right' I didn't know that, but it changed nothing.

The wandering ghostwaves had all drifted and joined to form this thing, this weapon of mass destruction, which was a shame in itself since they had seemed so peaceful and meek when I saw them.

"The answer is both, the ghostwave and the Emoni are one and the same. The Emoni simply took a new form, chose to be represented differently, and now we are this, we are one, closer to each other than we had ever been." It proclaimed, stretching both arms wide apart in declaration, its beautiful ghostly trident hovering before it.

"All this talk about who came first, people's essence, oneness or whatever, I don't care about it. All I need is to have you die by my hands, that's all that matters now." I said in retort. Yes, I cared not for its existential crisis nor its philosophy, all I wanted was to bash my hands into its giant bob of a head, and end things.
