‘Oops, he's right,’ I silently acknowledged, recognizing that there had been a miscommunication.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
"My praying trip," I clarified.
"Oh, that trip," Al swiftly grasped the reference. "What happened?" he inquired, his curiosity piqued.
I exchanged a knowing look with Eir, instructing him to provide an explanation for the duo. "Explain to them what happened to us," I directed Eir.
Eir responded with a nod of acknowledgment. "Alright," he agreed.
He delved into the intricate details, painting a vivid picture of the incident as he disclosed the series of troubling events. He began with the theft of a wyvern's egg by a noble from the Lizard tribe's convoy.
Then he went on to detail the lizard noble's subsequent attempt to entice Evelina and Jyne. Eir recounted the audacity of the lizard noble's advances. Eir's narrative took a more ominous turn as he described the poisoning of our mounts. Luckily, Evelina’s skills had not only neutralized the poison but also saved our mounts from a potentially fatal outcome.
"That's what happened," Eir concluded.
The prime minister voiced his outrage. "This is unforgivable!" he snarled, his irritation evident. His disappointment was palpable. Though not directly addressing a king, he was staunchly firm in his belief that the lizard tribe should have shown respect to the dragon tribe, particularly when they were within our territory. The lizard tribe's actions left a bitter taste in his mouth, a clear indication that the respect and expected decorum between the tribes had not been reciprocated.
"They were just a low tribe pretending to want to be dragons," the prime minister continued. "They have no honor or dignity as one. They just want to meddle with us, tarnish our reputation, and portray us in a negative light to other tribes," he added, his voice tinged with disappointment and exasperation.
The prime minister's sentiments painted a clear picture of his deep-seated animosity toward the Lizard tribe.
While the prime minister seethed with righteous fury at the lizard tribe's behavior, Al’s response was quite different, starting with a chuckle that eventually snowballed into loud laughter. His amusement seemed to stem from a kind of dark humor.
"He will be dead for sure," Al chuckled between his laughter, a touch of merciless humor in his words. "But I wouldn't expect anything since the lizard tribe kinda thinks with their little muscles rather than their brain," he quipped, still stifling his laughter.
Eir couldn’t help but crack a smile in response to Al's laughter. However, the prime minister's reaction differed drastically, his snort and sneer reflecting his sheer disdain for the lizard tribe's behavior. "Of course, that lowly noble must die. But I can't accept that the lizard king just arbitrarily decides something without looking at whose fault it is," he sneered.
Al’s laughter subsided at the prime minister's words, his demeanor changing drastically. His tone turned colder and more composed, an icy edge creeping into his voice. "Like I said… you can't expect less from the lizard tribe," Al remarked with a much colder tone, his eyes reflecting the chilling depths of his grudge.
The room grew tense as Al’s emotions came to the surface. "My family died because of their stupid accusations after all," Al said in an even colder tone.
Al's words was a reminder of the deep-seated pain and resentment he carried within him. His demeanor had transformed, betraying the emotional wounds that had yet to heal.
The charged atmosphere in the room seemed to affect everyone present. Both Eir and the prime minister felt the shift in the room's ambiance.
"Al," I addressed him in a calm tone, trying to break through the tension. My focus squarely rested on Al.
As if startled from a trance, Al's intense emotions seemed to ebb away. His dark aura dissipated, and he redirected his gaze to me, a hint of regret in his eyes. "Forgive me, Your Majesty. I got carried away," Al offered a sincere apology, recognizing the need to rein in his emotions that had briefly taken over.
"No, you have the right to be mad," I reassured him. "I haven't made them pay after all," I affirmed, referring to the unsettled score with the lizard tribe.
The unaddressed debt was a promise from the real Argod to Al, granting him the right to seek retribution against the lizard tribe that had brought misfortune to his family.
