Chapter 44 Dungeon Exploration
Lucas, Ella, and John started walking toward the Dungeon's entrance. There were many tracks of different creatures near it but they disappeared near the entrance.
"If the inside is going to be this dark, then maybe we should make a torch before entering," Lucas advised to which John nodded with understanding. He went near a tree and was just going to make some arrangements when Ella started moving toward the dungeon with fascination.
She tried to peek inside the darkness to know if there really was no light mechanism when suddenly. She warped out of existence. Lucas was looking at her the whole time to make sure she was safe but after only blinking his eyes for some milliseconds, she was out of his sight and it didn't even let him react properly as it had happened too fast.
"What?!"
"What?" John looked back to make sure that everything was right. He finally realized that Ella was not with Lucas and observed that Lucas was looking at the dungeon with wide eyes and a dumb expression.
"No..." John's face became pale, his eyes twitched from fear.
His legs started moving on his own when finally Lucas could see John right at the entrance of the dungeon and he disappeared after a single step inside the dungeon's gate.
This time, Lucas did not even blink; it happened again, and John had warped out of existence.
"Fuck!" Lucas exclaimed, his face paler than what would deem as a healthy one.
He had the urge to go inside but he was not dumb enough to do it right away, what if some creature could be right there in the darkness, but how did the both of them just disappear and not come back again till now?
His plan for making the torch was still there but he didn't know whether he had the time or how to make it in the first place.
It was getting confusing and Lucas kept thinking for a while until something totally unexpected happened.
'TRIIII'
The sound of a call kept resounding in his brain, he looked at the name and felt relief.
Before he could think of anything else, he had already clicked the button to make the call connect through his system.
-"Lucas, can you hear me?"- A man's voice came from the other side which made Lucas have relief.
"Yes, Uncle John. Come outside of the dungeon. We can make a plan and go in again."
-"No, there is no exit, just believe me and get inside the dungeon right now."-
Lucas first frowned but after thinking for a second knew that Uncle John would not do anything bad for him.
Lucas took a deep breath and took a step inside the dungeon yet when he did so, there was no darkness or anything in front of it but a well-lit corridor there.
Lucas got deja-vu from this sudden travel, the same thing had happened before when he came to this forest for the first time.
[You have entered the small realm of the Dungeon]
[Note: There are many more entrances like the one you came from, so you are not entirely the only one inside the dungeon.]
[Note: You can't leave before completing the whole dungeon.]
Lucas had an urge to puke yet this time, he could control it.
Many texts came in front of him again explaining some things that he had entered the dungeon.
Lucas was holding his mouth trying to keep the hard-earned glimmerroot inside his stomach.
'DING!'
'The call cut on its own?' Lucas frowned.
"Lucas, we are here." A familiar feminine voice came right from the back.
Lucas looked behind his back and saw two people just taking support of the greyish color wall.
"You both are safe! Thank goodnes-"
"Shh..." John kept a hand on Lucas's mouth and continued, "It isn't safe, talk slowly."
When Lucas was finally done with his reactions, his eyes darted in every direction. He was in a greyish-colored corridor with small torched every few meters on the walls.
It was a simple place and the small orangish flames from the torches seemed to have kept lighting up the room this whole time.
Lucas had only one thing in his mind for the walls, it was as if the walls had a cement finishing and a really good one. But someone had forgotten to color the walls making it look unfinished.
"Wait, how did we enter here? It looked nothing like this from the outside." Lucas exclaimed with astonishment.
"I don't know about that but one thing is clear that we are stuck here. Until we clear this dungeon, nobody gets out."
When the both of them were silently thinking of a way of moving things further, Ella kept squinting her eyes while looking at the unending corridor with the same wall and the torches.
On the floor, there was a little bump.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
"So? Should we start moving? It's not like we can just leave anyway." Lucas said.
They both started moving further but Ella had some other plans.
"Wait!"
"Speak slow, honey."
"I have a bad feeling, give me something that I can throw," Ella said and moved her hand near John as if asking for something right there.
John rummaged through his pockets, searching for something suitable that Ella could use. He pulled out a small, smooth stone and handed it to her.
Ella took the stone, her eyes fixed on the bump in the floor. She hesitated for a moment, weighing the stone in her hand. With a flick of her wrist, she threw the stone ahead, aiming for the bump.
The stone hit the bump, and to their surprise, it triggered a hidden mechanism. The floor beneath the bump gave way, revealing a hidden pitfall. Ella's instincts had saved them from a potentially dangerous trap.
CREAKK!
It made a loud noise and finally, the whole floor of around 3.6 meters ahead was replaced with a pit.
"What the hell?!" Lucas crouched down and looked at the bump on the floor once again, if one looked with precision, they could find that it really was an oddity in a perfectly aligned floor.
Lucas made a few careful steps until he found out was down in the pit. There were spears erected on the floor that was near and not that deep.
What made him cover his nose was a metallic smell that spread very quickly.
"I guess we know where those animals that left all those tracks are now... Look down." Lucas got away and let the duo also look.
John and Ella went ahead careful with their hand on their noses, the smell had already spread to them too.
The sight made Ella literally puke but she controlled herself. On the spears that were long, the bodies of the dead animals could be seen on them. They were too above the ground with the spear making them stay still while blood dripped on the ground in the pit continuously.
At this point, Lucas had come back again with curiosity to look back again. He looked at all of them and finally, his eyes fell on a certain odd looking being.
It had brown skin with no hair, its height looked to be small by human standards. Around 5 feet, it had an ugly face with nothing covering its body other than a short cloth that unfortunately couldn't hide anything, not even it's deal.
By looking at it, Lucas felt a nostalgic feeling, he rummaged through his memories until a word came right at his tongue.
"Goblin..." He said in a low voice, the others had not noticed the create that was at the corner and he didn't want them to. It was the second humanoid creature they had come across and he didn't want the already small group to feel scared right from the start.
"Thank you, Aunt Ella," Lucas said in earnest that got a small smile and a nod from her in response.
"How do we move ahead, we will either have to jump or close this pit again," John said with a hand on his chin.
Ella on the other hand had another plan, the stone she had thrown had already been shifted to the side of the pressure plate on its own. She picked it up and before the two men could do anything irrational, she threw the stone again at the plate thinking that it could not be any worse than what had already happened.
CREAKK!!
The floor that had moved to the side fast had come back with the same pace. Nobody could look at the floor and tell that it could move with just a single step like that.
"... I think Aunt Ella should move in the front."
From then on, their travel had begun again with Ella at the front. But everyone was looking for some kind of a trap like before with heightened vigilance.
The corridor seemed to be unending and Lucas didn't know why but he felt like this was the main challenge that would get them the rewards but he couldn't be any more wrong.
