CH.552 Deck Master Tournament, part 7
CH.552 Deck Master Tournament, part 7
Now it was time for the match between me and the tournament winner, Indigo.
So I guess I’ll start by revealing my deck master. As I said, it isn’t one of the sixteen the competitors could use, but a custom one I made for my own use.
Vennominagant the Saintess of Poisonous Snakes.
Because yes, I’m running Venoms.
So let’s get to the duel. This time, the judge of the duel was Janina. She had learned the rules of Yugioh, as you may have guessed by the fact that she was my opponent in the little show riding duel.
And since this was the finals, there were no coin flips. I just let Indigo pick who goes first, and she chose to go first.
“... I’ll summon Gladiator Beast Retiari.” She started her turn.
“And since you did, my deck master’s effect activates. When a monster is summoned, a Venom Counter is placed onto it.” I reminded Indigo, and informed the audience, as on the holograms between us, Vennominagant summoned a dark blue snake and the snake quickly slithered to Retiari and bit it, clinging to the monster.
“And while a monster, other than a Reptile-Type monster, has a Venom Counter, their effects are negated. And since Retiari’s effect is negated, you can’t use your deck master on it.” I again informed the audience. Indigo already knew this.
“I know.” Indigo responded. “I’ll set three cards and end my turn.”
“My turn then. I draw.” I began my turn. My opening hand is what someone might call shit, as I only have one monster in hand, and it is the level 5 Venom Boa. But the other cards are a lot better.
“I’ll start with Snake Rain. So I’ll discard my Venom Boa, then I can send 4 Reptile-Type monsters from my deck to my graveyard. I’ll send two more Venom Boas and two Venom Cobras.”
“Next, I’ll activate the Field Spell Venom Swamp. With it, during each end phase, all face up monsters on the field gain a Venom Counter. Also, all monsters, except Venom monsters, lose 500 attack for each counter. And if their attack drops to 0 because of this, the monster is destroyed.”
“Next, I’m activating Field Barrier. As long as it is active, my Venom Swamp cannot be destroyed and you cannot activate a Field Spell card.”
“I’ll then set two cards and end my turn.” I said as I ended my turn.
“... No monsters?” Indigo seemed to question.
“Don’t need any. My Venom Counters will deal with your monsters.” I answered. “Don’t forget, because I ended my turn, Retiari gets a second Venom Counter. And now it has lost 1000 attack. It only has 200 left.”
“My turn then.” Indigo said before she drew a card. “I play Gladiator Proving Ground to add Gladiator Beast Bestiari to my hand. I’ll then summon Bestiari.”
“And since you did, Bestiari will earn itself a Venom Counter. And because of Venom Swamp, it loses 500 attack. And it can’t use its effects.”
“I know, but it can be used as a material for a summoning. A fusion summoning. I fuse together my two monsters to fusion summon Gladiator Beast Gyzarus.”
“Again, it has a snake biting it, and since it does, no effect for you.”
“But it does still have 1900 attack. So Gyzarus, attack him directly.” Indigo ordered her monster.
“Since you declared an attack, I’ll activate my Damage equals Reptile.”
Indigo quickly read the card, but she had already declared an attack and activating a Continuous Trap doesn’t cause a replay, so the attack went through and I took 1900 damage.
“Now, since I took damage, Damage equals Reptile lets me summon a Reptile-Type monster with less attack than the damage I just took. So I’ll summon Venom Serpent.”
“Then Vennominagant’s effect grants my snake a Venom Counter.” I told Indigo, as a blue snake like the one biting the leg of her Gyzarus coiled protectively around my Venom Serpent. “And because of Vennominagant, all Venom monsters with Venom Counters gain 500 attack and defense for each, so my Serpent’s attack increases to 1500.”
“... that is fine.” Indigo said. “I end my turn.”
“And since you did, all face up monsters gain a Venom Counter.”
“My turn. I draw.” I started my turn. And I got a monster, good. “I normal summon Venom Snake. And since I did, it gains a Venom Counter and 500 attack.”
“Then I activate Venom Serpent’s effect. I can place one Venom Counter onto 1 monster on the field.” I said, about to add a Counter to my Venom Serpent so it would gain more attack.
“No you won’t!” Indigo interrupted. “I activate Gladiator Beast War Chariot. Since an effect monster activated its effect while I control a Gladiator Beast monster, I can negate the effect and destroy the monster. So your snake is destroyed!”
“... Nice move. But it doesn’t save you. My Venom Snake (1700 ATK) is stronger than your Gyzarus (1400 ATK). So Venom Snake, attack Gyzarus.” I ordered my monster.
“I activate Defensive Tactics. For the rest of the turn, I take no battle damage and my monsters cannot be destroyed by battle.” Indigo countered.
“Not bad. I suppose I must end my turn then.” I said. “And all monsters on the field get a Venom Counter.”
“My turn then. I draw.” Indigo started her turn, and I swear I saw a slight smile on her face. She must have gotten a good card. “I’ll change my Gyzarus to defense, and I’ll set a card. Then I summon Gladiator Beast Laquari.”
“Your Laquari gets a snake biting its ankle.” I reminded her, as a blue snake bit Laquari.
“I’m ending my turn.” Indigo said.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
“And thus, more snakes.” I said as three snakes flew out of Venom Swamp. Two bit into the Gladiator Beasts while the third coiled around Venom Snake.
“My turn then. I draw.” I started my turn.
“And since it is, I’m activating Master Seal!” Indigo claimed. Your deck master’s effects are negated until my next end phase.” Note: While Vennominagant on the field is unaffected by everything, while she is a deck master, her effects can be negated by Master Seal.
“... That’s fine.” I said, as my Venom Snake’s attack dropped back down to 1200. “Because of Venom Swamp, your monsters are still weak.”
“Maybe. But they have their effects!” Indigo exclaimed. “I use Test Tiger to return Gladiator Beast Gyzarus to my extra deck so I can special summon two Gladiator Beasts to take its place.” Indigo said. “I’m summoning Bestiari and Murmillo.”
“And since I summoned them by the effect of a Gladiator Beast monster, their effects activate. With Murmillo, I’m destroying your Venom Snake. And with Bestiari, I’m destroying your Damage equals Reptile.”
And like so, two of my cards were destroyed.
“I’ll then activate my Double Tag Team.” Indigo continued. “Since I special summoned a Gladiator Beast, I can special summon a level 4 or lower Gladiator Beast from my hand or deck. And I’m summoning Gladiator Beast Samnite.”
“But he won’t stay on the field for long, because I’m returning him to my deck so I can special summon Gladiator Beast Octavius. And when Octavius is summoned, I can destroy a set spell or trap you control. So it is …”
“So I’ll activate it. Venom Burn. Laquari loses its Venom Counters and you take 700 damage for each. That is 1400 damage.” I responded. The two snakes that had been attached to Laquari released their bites and lunged at Indigo.
“But now my monsters have no Venom Counters, so they have all of their attack points.” Indigo said.
“... Yes, but did you forget, it is my turn. You can’t attack on my turn, and before it comes back to your turn, Venom Swamp will spread around more counters. You really should have destroyed my Field Barrier instead of Damage equals Reptile, so on your next turn, while Master Seal is still active, you could have destroyed Venom Swamp. But you do you.” I told Unika.
“... maybe. I’ll return Murmillo to my deck to summon Dimacari. Then I return Dimacari to the deck to summon Alexander. And since Alexander was summoned by Dimacari, he is unaffected by spells. And since the deck master is treated as a spell, Alexander is unaffected by your deck master and Venom Swamp.”
“Nice moves. I think I’ll just set this card face down and end my turn.” It might seem like I didn’t do much with my turn, but a set card can do a ton. “And during my end phase, all of your Gladiator Beasts…”
“Other than Alexander.”
“gain a Venom Counter.”
“My turn then.” Indigo said and drew a card. “And I think I’ll start by fusing together Bestiari and Laquari to summon Gladiator Beast Gyzarus. And when Gyzarus is summoned, I can target two cards you control and destroy them. I’ll destroy your Field Barrier and your set card.”
“That’s fine. But my set trap is Waking the Dragon. And since it was destroyed by my opponent’s card effect and is now in my graveyard, I can special summon a monster from my deck or extra deck. So come forth, Vennominon the King of Poisonous Snakes.”
“My Vennominon gains 500 attack for each Reptile-Type monster in my graveyard. I have seven, so Vennominon has 3500 attack.” I informed Indigo.
“Maybe. Maybe. But that doesn’t matter. Since your Field Barrier is gone, I can activate Colosseum - Cage of the Gladiator Beasts.”
“Now I’ll return Gyzarus to my extra deck so I can summon two monsters to take its place. So return Gladiator Beast Bestiari and Gladiator Beast Murmillo. And when they are summoned, my Field Spell gains counters, and their effects activate. With Murmillo, I’m destroying your King of Poisonous Snakes and with Bestiari, I’m destroying Venom Swamp!”
I just watched as the poisonous swamp around us disappeared and my King of Poisonous Snakes was destroyed. I have to give it to Indigo. She really is doing everything while she can. I honestly assumed my deck master would be too much for her, but one Master Seal and she is turning things around.
“Now I’ll return Murmillo to summon Hoplomus. Then I can return Hoplomus to summon Spartacus.” Indigo kept going. “And since Spartacus was summoned with Hoplomus’ effect, I can add a Gladiator Beast Equip Spell Card from my deck to my hand, and I’m adding Gladiator Beast's Battle Gladius.”
“Next I’ll return Octavius to my deck so I can summon Retiari. When Retiari is summoned I can banish one card in your graveyard, so I’m banishing Vennominon the King of Poisonous Snakes.”
“I’ll then return Retiari to summon Samnite. But then I’ll return Samnite to summon Octavius.”
“I’m returning my Bestiari to summon Laquari. And since Laquari was summoned this way, it gains 300 attack.”
“I’m fusing together Spartacus and Alexander to fusion summon Gladiator Beast Gaiodiaz.”
“And last, I’m equipping the Gladiator Beast's Battle Gladius to Gaiodiaz. And since my Field Spell has 8 counters, all of my Gladiator Beast monsters gain an extra 800 attack.”Note: Indigo summoned Gaiodiaz because she wanted to have something on the field that would/will have more attack than Brian's deck master, if Brian chooses to summon it.
“Now we battle. Gladiator Beast Laquari, attack him directly.” Indigo declared an attack.
I knew how this would end, but I really didn’t have a choice. Indigo had won the first duel already. I just had to do what I could.
“I’m summoning my deck master.” I exclaimed. “So come forth, Vennominagant the Saintess of Poisonous Snakes.”
“Vennominagant gains 500 attack for each Venom monster in my GY, and 500 more for each Venom counter on the field. There are seven Venoms in my GY and no Venom counters on the field, so Vennominagant has 3500 attack.”
“Laquari, hold off your attack.” Indigo canceled her attack because of the replay. “Gaiodiaz, destroy Vennominagant!” She attacked. Because of the equip spell and the counters on Indigo’s Field Spell, Gaiodiaz had 3700 attack, which is enough to take down Vennominagant.
And since there are no Venom Counters on the field, Vennominagant can’t come back. Which means I have no deck master and I lost the first duel.
