Chapter 507: 202 Jiang Ge’s birthday, playing against the wind to turn the tables (second update)_1
Pu Xiaohan had tightly wrapped the outside of the box, and Xu Nanjing had to exert some effort to cut it open. Inside, there was something that resembled a book, which was also wrapped in a protective film.
One could not see clearly through the protective film.
Xiao Bingwen greeted Xun Feng on the other side, “Did she send you… a book?”
This seemed like something Bai Lian could do.
Xu Nanjing exerted some more effort to cut open the protective film, finally revealing a red background with golden letters that read “Invitation,” and below it, there was an imposing white tiger.
“An invitation?” Xiao Bingwen picked up the red wine that was put aside, stood up to prepare to attend to the group that had come today, and glanced at it casually, “What kind of invitation is this, a white tiger, from the White Tiger Auction House, huh.”
He said it offhandedly.
In mid-sentence, his steps abruptly came to a halt.
Then, with a “snap,” he set down the wine glass, his gaze fixed unblinkingly on the invitation.
There had never been a moment where he felt the sound of his heartbeat so clearly. His throat tightened, and his voice trembled: “This, this is…”
They didn’t have invitations, but they had seen them before.
The White Tiger Auction House was a place where they could buy almost everything they wanted. Occasionally, certain items were too precious, making the invitations hard to get, but in most cases, the Xu and Xiao families were still able to get one through official channels.
So at just one glance, they recognized that this was the invitation they had been seeking this time.
“Did Miss Bai send this to you?” Xiao Bingwen looked at the tattered box beside him and then at the understated and mysterious invitation in Xu Nanjing’s hands, finding it absurdly comical.
Xu Nanjing immediately took out his phone to call Bai Lian.
She picked up after one ring, “Little sister Bai Lian, what did you send over?”
Bai Lian had just finished school, and she was at a milk tea shop ordering a milk tea, while Chi Yundai was passing a plate of cake to her.
“An invitation,” she took the cake that Chi Yundai offered and turned to walk inside, her voice calm and unhurried, “Haven’t you been looking for it? What’s the matter?”
Xu Nanjing: “No, no.”
“Oh,” Bai Lian’s tone was casual, “Is there anything else?”
Her tone suggested, “Don’t disturb my studies.”
The two hung up the phone.
“She,” Xiao Bingwen had listened to the entire conversation, finally came back to his senses, and murmured: “Where did she get that invitation from?”
He and Xu Nanjing had been busy for half a month, and these last few days they were really about to give up, then this invitation had fallen from the sky?
Was it from Jiang Fulai?
Bai Lian was but a high school student at Xiangcheng First High School, other than Jiang Fulai, Xiao Bingwen really couldn’t think of any other explanation.
**
Bai Lian had been in seclusion and did not attend the auction.
Saturday.
It was rare for Jiang Fulai to have a day off, and these people were already regulars at the library.
The light streamed through the library windows and fell on the table by the window. Today, the library was quite busy, and the table on the right was completely occupied by Bai Lian and her group.
Jiang Fulai sat on the very right, with black headphones on his ears, in front of him was a very thin laptop.
His slender fingers tapped on the keyboard, and occasionally he turned his head to speak with Bai Lian; the sunlight fell on his face, his eyelashes cast down, giving his usually cold features a touch of entanglement.
Tang Ming across him raised his hand, looking cautiously towards Jiang Fulai, “Teacher Jiang, we’re having hotpot for lunch.”
Jiang Fulai was used to being cold, and his demeanor didn’t seem to fit someone who would join them in bustling eateries.
Although they had had hotpot together many times, inviting Jiang Fulai still took a lot of courage from Tang Ming.
“Sure,” Jiang Fulai nodded indifferently.
Tang Ming finally sighed with relief and quickly sat down.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
At noon, the hotpot restaurant in the next mall.
To ensure everyone could eat properly, Tang Ming and the others booked a private room; the group wasn’t large – Bai Lian, Jiang Fulai, Pu Xiaohan, Ning Xiao, Tang Ming, and Jiang He.
They had ordered a dual-flavored hotpot, to which Jiang Fulai was indifferent.
He held a pencil, scanned the menu, and ticked a few dishes Bai Lian would eat.
As he continued scrolling, Bai Lian reached out to press down on his fingers.
Jiang Fulai’s fingers were always cool, due to spending too much time in the underground laboratory. Even in Xiangcheng, it didn’t change his constitution; his naturally pale and cold fingers seemed even more like white jade.
Feeling a warmth, he looked at Bai Lian’s finger pressing on his hand, then watched her leisurely pull the pencil from his grip.
Bai Lian rested her chin on her other hand, tilting her head slightly, “Teacher Jiang, no need to order more; they’ve ordered more than we can finish.”
She spoke from experience.
Jiang Fulai let go of the menu, “Alright then.”
He didn’t continue ordering.
Having known each other for so long, aside from when Jiang Fulai was teaching them and prone to teasing, during meals, he generally did not disrupt everyone’s good time and was trying to contain the coldness he emanated.
What do you think?
