Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Lin Shen and his two companions didn't notice that above that great mountain, a large patch of white clouds had drifted over and come to a stop near the mountain, blending almost completely with the mists that enshrouded the mountain.

Within those clouds was an island-like floating object that resembled a vacation resort, complete with an artificial pool, a sandy beach, and even a crooked-neck tree and a small wooden hut.

On the beach, a sun umbrella was set up, under which there was a small table and two lounge chairs.

On one of the lounge chairs lay a Shaggy Old Celestial dressed in colorful shorts and a vest, his face shielded by a pair of sunglasses.

Despite his age, he had a tall stature, stylish hair, and a chiseled face with a well-groomed beard, making him look like a model.

If Lin Shen were here, he would probably have a hard time recognizing that this Shaggy Old Celestial lounging leisurely and the one who orchestrated the shoddy situation were actually the same person.

"Your Majesty, what brings you to the Ascension Pool today? Shall I join you for a bath?" A Celestial Race swimsuit beauty sat on the other lounge chair, smiling sweetly.

"No bathing today, just watching the show," the Heavenly Emperor replied as he took a bottle, downing the liquid inside with flair before casually tossing the bottle onto the sandy beach. "Xiao Liuzi, bring a case of Heavenly Liquid over. Is the barbecue ready?"

"Right away, Your Majesty," Xiao Liuzi scurried over with a case of Heavenly Liquid, placing it on the ground beside him, opening a bottle for the Heavenly Emperor and setting another bottle on the table near the Celestial Race beauty.

Then Xiao Liuzi scurried back to the grill, transforming into a barbecue expert, flipping skewers of some unknown meat.

"Watching the show? What show?" The Celestial beauty looked puzzled as she surveyed the area below, quickly spotting Lin Shen and the other two standing at the entrance of the Ascension Pool.

"Are those two humans? How come they are at the Ascension Pool?" Her beautiful eyes shifted, as if she had figured something out, and she said with some surprise, "Your Majesty, did you come to the Ascension Pool specifically to watch them?"

"Not to watch them, but to watch the show," the Heavenly Emperor retorted with a slight snort.

Although the Celestial beauty didn't understand what was so interesting about two human Ascenders and a Celestial Race Ascender, she pretended to be quite interested, observing the trio.

"Xiao Liuzi, where do you think they'll be able to swim to?" The Heavenly Emperor seemed disinterested in conversing with the Celestial beauty and instead struck up a conversation with Xiao Liuzi, who was busy barbecuing.

"That one named Wei Wufu practiced the Phoenix Purple Qi Jue and is now Third Turn; that Tian Xin, the youngest son of the Tian Jue Family, lacks the aptitude for the 'Angel Reincarnation Skill' but the Evolution Skill he practiced is not bad, tailor-made for him by Tian Jue, though he is only at Fourth Turn.

Tian, I heard, is only Second Turn, his Evolution Skill seems to be 'Evolution Theory'; his strength is not very clear. Judging by their levels, they could at most reach the pool, trying to ascend the stream up the mountain seems a bit difficult."

After a pause, Xiao Liuzi continued, "However, since they managed to return unscathed from the Sea of Flames, they must be somewhat capable. I think they should be able to ascend the stream up the mountain for a distance, but not too far."n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"You make some sense," the Heavenly Emperor said noncommittally, before turning to the Celestial beauty next to him. "What do you think, my beloved?"

The Celestial beauty replied, "Your Majesty, I think Tian Xin should be able to ascend the mountain against the stream. The other two humans may at most reach the pool. That Tian, I'm afraid, might not even make it to the pool."

"Why do you say that?" the Heavenly Emperor asked with interest.

"The Phoenix Purple Qi Jue is barely considered a first-rate Evolution Skill, while 'Evolution Theory' is just a basic Evolution Skill. If one practices such an Evolution Skill, how strong could they possibly be?" the Celestial beauty explained.

"You also make sense," the Heavenly Emperor nodded.

"What do you think, Your Majesty?" the Celestial beauty inquired.

"Of course, I share the same opinion as my beloved consort," the Heavenly Emperor said with a smile, "Xiao Liuzi, you're the only one with a different view. If you guess wrong, you'll be punished."

"That's only fair. I've just gotten something recently. If I lose, let's use it as a stake. Your Majesty, does that sound acceptable?" A sweating Xiao Liuzi ran over, placing an item on the table and asked cautiously.

"That's fine." The Heavenly Emperor didn't even look at what it was, simply uttering an indifferent response.

Only then did Xiao Liuzi breathe a sigh of relief and ran back to continue grilling his skewers.

Unaware they were being secretly watched, Lin Shen and his companions saw Tian Xin leap into the river that wound around the mountains like a giant serpent, swimming towards the pool while shouting, "I'm heading on first; I'll wait for you on the mountain."

"Huh, how has Tian Xin become so much better at swimming?" Lin Shen watched Tian Xin's agile form cutting through the water upstream, his swimming strokes standard and his speed quite fast, which caught him by surprise.

He remembered that although Tian Xin could handle water, he wasn't this impressive—probably he had specifically trained for this trip to the Ascension Pool.

"Old Wei, what should we do?" Lin Shen turned to Wei Wufu and asked.

He had never practiced swimming much because he fell into a water vat as a child and almost drowned.

Although he wouldn't say he had any psychological trauma, he wasn't fond of getting into the water.

He had thought that with the ability to fly and the Floating On Water Skill, he wouldn't need to learn swimming, but here was a day when it seemed necessary.

"Let's go... do our best..." Wei Wufu said and also jumped into the water.

Lin Shen watched Wei Wufu use the dog paddle desperately to swim upstream, splashing a lot of water but moving forward at a very slow pace, slower than an old lady's walk.

Lin Shen, having no other choice, leaped in as well. Wufu was right—since they were already here, they might as well do their best.

The Heavenly Emperor and his companions almost burst into laughter watching Wei Wufu's dog paddle.

When it was Lin Shen's turn to get into the water, he executed a beautiful dive and plunged in, only to sink straight to the bottom.

"Pfft!" The Celestial beauty couldn't hold back anymore. She spat out a mouthful of Heavenly Liquid she had just drunk, "Your Majesty, it seems we overestimated them. Both of them appear to be clueless about swimming; not to mention going upstream, they probably can't even reach the pool."

The Heavenly Emperor was also somewhat surprised. He hadn't expected the two of them to be so inept at swimming and chuckled, "Coming to the Ascension Pool without knowing how to swim, they really are quite unique."

Tian Xun was unaware they couldn't swim; considering they had survived in the Sea of Flames and even got a living Crimson Flame Starburst Dragon as a pet, he had thought their swimming ability was decent and hadn't mentioned it.

After all, swimming ability was only a minor part; it wasn't the decisive factor. It still depended on their cultivation level and capabilities.

As long as someone possessed even a little swimming skill, there shouldn't be much trouble. Who could have imagined it would be a hindrance for them?

As soon as Lin Shen entered the water, he immediately felt a strange strength within the current rushing into his body.
