Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 378 Can You Lower My Rank for Me?

"Right, you're absolutely freaking right—I knew there was a reason why I kept making such inexplicable mistakes." Lin Shen suddenly slapped his thigh excitedly, "My memory sucks; it must be because, when I was made, they skimped on the memory and the hard drive. Just store a few things and it's full; if I want to keep saving new stuff, I have to overwrite the old memories."

"I can't get rid of my love for fun, I've got procrastination issues, gluttony, laziness, and no desire to work hard. All these are because that damned programmer wrote a trashy program for me."

"Not enough talent, slow reactions, and the habit of daydreaming—I can never learn all sorts of martial arts and Evolution Skills. It's obvious my hardware isn't up to snuff; what kind of junk did they equip me with?"

The more Lin Shen talked, the more he felt he wasn't to blame. It was the creator who assembled him that was no good, and the programmer was a hack that ended up making him this way.

"Thinker, bro, I think I'm like a smart machine. Any chance you can give me a hardware upgrade? I'm talking top-of-the-line stuff, where I can instantly run all the big programs like advanced martial arts and such—like a quick boot. And beef up my memory and hard drive so I can load up more programs... Maybe throw in a nice skin or shell too... I'm not asking for much...

just slightly handsomer than this guy next to me is fine..."

As Lin Shen rambled on, more and more excited, the Thinker gazed at him in a daze; he seemed to have never encountered anyone who discussed this matter from such an angle before.

"I have only pondered about this issue; I do not have the capability to make smart machines, nor can I upgrade your parts," the Thinker looked Lin Shen up and down, saying, "Moreover, if you really were a smart machine, you'd be the kind that's no longer worth upgrading and should be outright scrapped. Please forgive my helplessness."

"I think I can still be salvaged. Could you at least help me optimize my program?" Lin Shen looked at the Thinker with a hopeful face.

"I can't," the Thinker slowly closed his eyes, "You may leave. If you encounter anyone who can answer my question, then return to the Realm King's Prison City and tell me the answer."

"The Realm King's Prison City? Does that mean this place is where the Realm King is imprisoned? Which Realm King is imprisoned here?" Ouyang Yudu asked in astonishment.

"I don't know," the Thinker said as a beam of blood-red light shot out from the only open crimson vertical pupil in his eye.

The blood-red beam turned into lightning and struck the building they were in. Both men felt as if they had been electrocuted; their bodies and brains felt numb.

Lin Shen couldn't move his body, but his mind was exceptionally clear. The Thinker's eerie voice appeared in his mind: "Find the answer, and you can use the teleporter to come to the Realm King's Prison City; I've entered the coordinates into your Realm King Teleporter. Due to the rules, I cannot help upgrade or optimize you, but if you return with the answer, there will be benefits for you."

As soon as the voice ended, Lin Shen felt his body suddenly enveloped by a vast amount of liquid; before he could react, he had gulped down a few mouthfuls.

He hurriedly held his breath and steadied himself, then took out the Nightglow Flower to light up the surroundings, and opened his eyes to look around. He found himself outside of the ancient city, with Ouyang Yudu not far away, swimming towards him.

The ancient city suddenly started to tremble, slowly sliding towards the seabed trench at the edge of the cliff, and quickly falling down.

Suddenly, Lin Shen spotted a figure, clutching a chain and climbing down.

The ancient city gradually sank into the depths of the trench, and the figure holding onto the chain plummeted with it.

"Holy crap... Wei..." Because he was a bit far away, Lin Shen couldn't make out the person's face, but by the figure and the color of the carapace, he recognized immediately that it was Wei Wufu.

Apparently, the vibration caused by the Blue Light Butterfly crashing into the ancient city had made Wei believe they were in trouble down below, so he descended along the chain.

Without a moment to spare, Lin Shen rushed towards the trench, but his swimming skills were subpar. Before he could get there, Ouyang Yudu had already zoomed over like a dragon, grabbing Wei Wufu's arm and swimming to the side with him.

Ouyang Yudu swam away into the distance, still making hand signals to Lin Shen, indicating that he should quickly distance himself from the sea trench.

Lin Shen immediately realized what was happening and desperately ran in the direction away from the trench, frantically scrabbling with his hands.

Soon, a massive figure plummeted down—it was the body of the Coral Turtle, dragged down into the trench by the ancient city.

The ancient city was sliding slowly at first, creating whirlpools and undercurrents that weren't too severe, but as it picked up speed in its descent, the Coral Turtle was pulled down rapidly, resulting in terrifying undercurrents and whirlpools that nearly swept all three of them away.

Lin Shen drove the Wolf Fang Club into the rocks, fiercely clinging to them to prevent himself from being sucked into the trench.

Wei Wufu and Ouyang Yudu were in similar straits, with Wei using the Purple-Red Whip and Ouyang Yudu employing the Archangel's Sword to anchor themselves.

Their bodies waved like seaweed in the violent undercurrents, and their weapons carved long, deep scratches on the rocks.

By the time the currents weakened enough for the three to contend with them using their own strength, they were almost at the edge of the cliff.

The dark, lightless sea trench was like a monster that devoured everything, lurking at the bottom of the Sea of Flames, seemingly ready to choose its next victim at any moment.

The ancient city and Coral Turtle were already submerged deep in the sea, not even a shadow in sight.

The three of them fought against the undercurrents, desperately making their way up to the surface.

Fortunately, the buoyancy of the Sea of Flames was substantial enough that, once they broke free from the undercurrents, they quickly surfaced.

"We finally made it out alive," Lin Shen said as he soared into the sky, gasping for air.

Although he didn't need to breathe, he did so instinctively, as if only by doing so could he alleviate his psychological pressure.

"Lin Shen, is that really what you were thinking?" Ouyang Yudu hovered not far from Lin Shen and asked with a complex expression.

"What?" Lin Shen didn't catch on at first, but after a moment, he replied with a grimace, "How could that be possible? I was just putting on a show for him. When that guy asked a question like that, it was clear he had no intention of letting us leave the ancient city alive. I just wanted to disrupt his logic. If we had continued according to his line of thought, how could we possibly outtalk him?n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

That guy has contemplated that question in the ancient city for who knows how many years; even a deity wouldn't win a debate against him."

"That's a relief," Ouyang Yudu smiled. "I should have known earlier. How could someone like you be so easily swayed by others."

"It's not that you couldn't think of it, but that concern leads to chaos," Lin Shen shook his head. "I wasn't entirely acting, though. His words truly touched me, and some of what I said came from the heart—three parts false, seven parts true, otherwise it would have been easy to see through."

"Which parts came from the heart?" Ouyang Yudu asked.

"Definitely not the part about wanting to change my skin," Lin Shen was about to continue but suddenly saw three figures quickly approaching from the distant sky.

"Flarela!" The faces of all three changed in unison. Now, it seemed too late to escape.
