Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 126: There's Another Survivor

Chapter 126: Chapter 126: There’s Another Survivor

“Lu Hao, how about a few of us stay in the annex and your family lives in the main house?”

Xue Wanyi made the suggestion. After all, they were one family, and it wasn’t too good to split up.

Liao Yifan, Yin Chengtian, Shi Jin, and Guo Yang all agreed enthusiastically.

“Alright,”

Lu Hao nodded. He had the same idea, as the matter of the Space needed to be kept a secret for now, so living this way would be more convenient.

“Then it’s settled, little sister. When it comes to meals…” Guo Yang started; he definitely didn’t want them to forget to include them during meal times.

“Don’t worry, the main activities, including dining, will still be in the main house,” Su Jin said with a smile. She had plenty in her Space, enough to never run out of food; the only worry was having no one to eat it.

“Fantastic!” Yin Chengtian and the others cheered.

Once they had settled the matter, they began dividing up the work. Cleaning was mainly managed by the Water Element users Huang Yunxiang and Lin Tianzhen, as water was needed in many areas.

Although the furniture was complete, considering that the annex lacked necessary items like beds and wardrobes, Su Jin moved some from the main house and distributed them to various rooms in the annex.

As for the furniture in the main house, she took out all the furniture she had collected in H city.

“Wow, it feels like I’m back at my own home!”

Mrs. Su was thrilled, gazing at the familiar furniture. Even though it wasn’t costly, it made her feel a strong sense of belonging here.

There were no livable rooms on the first floor, so people could only start living from the second floor up.

The second, third, and fourth floors each had three rooms. Su Jin arranged for Mr. Su, Mrs. Su, and her aunt and uncle to live on the second floor. Mao Qiqi also got her own room.

She and Lu Hao, along with Lin Xiuyuan and his family, stayed on the third floor. Lastly, Lu Guanhai and Nie Qing occupied the fourth floor.

There was actually another floor above that, a semi-open terrace used for drying clothes. Su Jin hadn’t yet come up with a use for it, so it was left unchanged for the time being.

As for the basement, Su Jin had converted the former card room into a space for family members to exercise. There were two treadmills and several other pieces of fitness equipment. Placing them there actually completed the look.

However, the entire villa still had no power system. They would have a unified power supply once the base was completed. For now, they could use the solar-powered generators from the Space. Although they had to be conservative with its usage, it was much better than having no power at all.

During this time, Su Jin secretly went into the Space, informing her grandparents about their current situation and that, finally, they didn’t have to eat boxed meals that night.

The grandparents were relieved to hear that the family was living together again. It put their minds at ease after the long journey, and they could stop worrying so much.

“Don’t worry. With me and Lu Hao here, nothing bad will happen,” Su Jin comforted them. She knew her grandmother Li Xiuying tended to worry a lot, so she reassured her.

“You know, you and Xiao Hao should be careful too. When will you give us a great-grandchild to play with? Boy or girl, it doesn’t matter,” Li Xiuying mused, having considered this as she relaxed in the Space. The young couple had been married for several months now, and despite the Apocalypse, it was time to think about having children.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

“Grandpa, what’s for dinner tonight? We’ll come and join you after eating early,” Su Jin hurriedly changed the subject and ran to the kitchen.

“This child, really,”

Li Xiuying laughed and shook her head, letting the younger generation decide for themselves.

In the secondary residence, the wines, Guo Yang had Su Jin store them in her “Space,” none of them being wine enthusiasts. These things were set aside for now, rather than taking up space in his “Space.” Upstairs, the figurines and books with calligraphy and paintings were also all taken by Su Jin; although these items were not useful now, books and artworks represented the crystal of human civilization. She believed that one day, humanity would overcome the apocalypse, and then these things would become even more rare.

After finishing these tasks, Su Jin checked the time—it was already half-past five in the afternoon. Lin Yunguo had finished cooking in the “Space,” so Su Jin laid out the dishes one by one on the dining table in the main house.

At that moment, the solar panels that Lu Hao and Su Xiangzhe had installed together started generating power, and the lights in the house came on.

As Guo Yang and others arrived, they saw a table full of delicious dishes under the warm glow of the lights. Wasn’t this too extravagant? There was even a large pot of braised pork knuckles!

The men all swallowed their saliva in unison; these days, although they were hardly starved, the feeling of having such a lavish spread of dishes had been missing for a long time.

“Guo Yang, what happened to your face?” Mrs. Su asked in surprise, noticing a red swollen mark on Guo Yang’s right cheek.

“It’s nothing, auntie, I just bumped it by accident,” Guo Yang said embarrassedly with a smile.

Xue Wanyi and others held back their laughter, recalling the scene where Liao Yifan had hit Guo Yang. It turned out that while choosing rooms, Guo Yang shamelessly wanted to stay next to Liao Yifan, but not only was he slapped by Liao Yifan, he also did not get his wish. Eventually, Liao Yifan decided to live alone on the fourth floor.

Mrs. Su, seeing everyone’s expressions, roughly guessed what had happened and refrained from saying more, quickly inviting everyone to start eating.

Not far away, the curtains of a villa were slightly pulled apart, revealing a skinny man inside, surprised by the sight of a villa with lights on. Although the curtains were drawn, he could still make out the lights through them.

“Could there be other survivors here?” the man wondered in shock, trying to discern if there were people inside, but he could only see the faint light through the thick curtains.

Never mind, even if there were survivors, what of it? He had already decided to fend for himself here alone.

When was his last meal? It seemed like it was the day before yesterday?

He grimaced bitterly. A medical doctor by profession, not killed by zombies but now potentially starving to death here?

“Qiqi, are you saying there’s another living person nearby?” Liao Yifan asked in surprise at the dinner table.

Mao Qiqi nodded; she had used her spiritual power to sense her surroundings during her afternoon rest and had detected a small green dot at the edge of the area, quite close to their location.

“It’s normal, the security system in these houses is very good. If one hasn’t been infected by the zombie virus or bitten, surviving isn’t too difficult,” Su Jin said as she ate.

“Yeah, we’ll start splitting into groups tomorrow to clear the zombies from the villa area,” Lu Hao added.

Throughout their journey today, they realized there were still quite a few zombies around. In addition to continuing to practice their special abilities and zombie-killing skills, cleaning up the zombies in the area would make their residence safer.

Everyone nodded in agreement. Killing zombies had become a part of their daily routine, much like taking a walk after a meal before the apocalypse. Now, after eating, they felt compelled to kill a few zombies to get a sense of fulfillment, as if they hadn’t completed the day’s task otherwise.
