Neurolink System in the Modern World

Chapter 394 Playing

[3rd Person POV]

Yuki panted, feeling the exhaustion taking over her body. She thought she had a shot at getting away, but things took a turn when more people showed up.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Now, she was trapped, surrounded by 30 men, all wielding katanas that could control elements.

It was a battle she couldn't win, but the thought of being forced into an unwanted marriage made her feel sick.

Her family intended for her to marry someone who was already 50 years old, all for the sake of expanding their status.

It was a death sentence for someone like her.

She might be a powerful shaman, but deep down, she was just a young pure girl with dreams of finding true love.

Perhaps it seemed like a foolish dream to some, but she held onto it with all her heart.

She truly believed that, one day, she would meet her soulmate – someone kind, someone who would be there to protect and cherish her.

"Give up now, Lady Yuki," The long haired leader warned her.

Yuki paused for a moment, but she did not show fear in her eyes. She knew they weren't entirely serious about hurting her, and that's why she could take down some of them.

"Just kill me!" She gritted her teeth with determination. It was her way of rebelling against the clan that had sold her out.

She prepared for the ultimate confrontation, willing to go as far as taking her own life as a last resort.

"Don't be stupid!" the long-haired leader scolded her, and attempted to get closer.

"Don't move, or I'll kill myself!" Yuki screamed, pointing her katana at her own neck.

Everyone remained still after witnessing her actions. If something happened to her, the entire group would have to commit seppuku for failing the mission.

However, just as she was about to commit suicide, the entire atmosphere underwent a sudden shift. Sakura petals began to fall from the sky, an unusual sight given they were atop a tall building.

Then, a calming hum resonated in the air – instrumental music that had a soothing effect on the heart.

"I can't bear to see someone so beautiful meet their end like this," a melodic male voice echoed, capturing everyone attention.

They turned towards the source of the voice and saw a mist approaching. Emerging from it was a lone figure with long, two-toned hair (White and Black) wearing a blue kimono, leisurely sipping from a sake plate.

"A Yokai?" Yuki muttered to herself. The man in front of her didn't seem human at all. He was too handsome.

Yokai, demons in Japanese folklore, were often considered mythical, but as a shaman, she knew they were real.

However, it was different from the myths. Yokai were either humans who unlocked Mind powers that turned them into monsters or animals that gained the ability to use Mind Power.

To sum it up, it was just another way to distinguish a different type of Gifted in Japan.

"Stop, or we will kill you," the men with swords warned, pointing their blades towards the newcomer. His presence made them more cautious.

"I just don't want someone so beautiful to end up dead," The newcomer responded with an indifferent tone. He showed no fear; in fact, the smile on his face indicated that he didn't see them as a threat at all.

"I said stop !" One of the men used his sword and conjure a blade of wind that directly flew towards target.

"Dodge it!" Yuki instinctively shouted.

However, it was too late; the wind blade was too fast. Before she knew it, it had already hit the Yokai head-on.

BOOOOOM!

A burst of wind erupted as the mist and the wind blade collided. It was a direct hit, and Yuki couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt.

Yokai or not, that person came here to save her – a man who didn't even know her sacrificed his life for her sake.

For someone like her, who often romanticized things, she couldn't help but think that maybe that person was her soulmate.

However, the next scene shocked everyone.

When the mist cleared up, they saw the Yokai again, this time sitting leisurely on the mist as if it was solid. His sake plate was still in hand, and he took a sip before speaking.

"You mortals never cease to amuse me," he said with a chuckle. "Attacking someone without even knowing what you're dealing with."

"He's dangerous! Kill him!" ordered the group leader, realizing that they were dealing with someone very powerful.

All of them focused their attack , unleashing barrages of elemental powers. But it just went through him like he was some kind of mirage.

"He's using illusion. We need to find the real body!" barked one of them as they realized what was going on.

They widened their attacks, trying to force him to come out.

But the Yokai simply laughed at their attempts to harm him and continued sipping his sake.

"Who are you?" asked by the leader, his eyes filled with frustration.

"I am known by many names," he replied cryptically. "But you're not worthy to know my name"

The mocking tone of the Yokai triggered the leader, and he tightened his grip on the hilt of his katana, causing lightning to converge around the sheathe.

He held the position of leader of this group for a reason – he could wield a katana that summoned lightning, one of the strongest elements.

This was also why he refrained from directly attacking Yuki. His power could accidentally kill her, so he had been holding back. If not for that, a single attack from him would be enough to end her.

SWOOOOOSH!

With one swift motion, he drew his sword from its sheath, and his body turned into a blur. Using lightning as a radar, he had already pinpointed the true location of his target and was merely feigning for a surprise attack.

"Die!" The leader shouted as he slashed through what appeared to be empty space. However, instead of the sword passing through the air, a shockwave reverberated as it actually hit a solid object.

"I guess I've been playing too much," the Yokai chuckled, playfully blocking the katana with just one finger, as if the leader's attack was nothing but a joke in front of him.
