Chapter 289: Woke Up
Chapter 289: Woke Up
The young soldier, having assisted Yao Ran in bringing the food out, didn't refuse her invitation.
"Thank you, Young Lady." He said gratefully.
Yao Ran smiled and introduced herself. "My name is Yao Ran. You are younger than me, right? Just call me by my name or call me sister."
The young soldier, only nineteen years old and a year younger than her, smiled shyly and nodded, "Sister Yao."
"Good."
As they chatted, Wu Lian and the others arrived with the remaining side dishes. After setting them on the counter, Yao Ran turned on the heater to keep the food warm. Then, she served herself a portion.
Holding a tray of food, she looked at Wu Lian and said, "Captain Wu, feel free to eat the food. There is watermelon juice in the refrigerator. If anyone wants water, there is also a dispenser next to the refrigerator. After eating, just leave the dirty dishes in the sink. I will wash it later."
With that, she found a seat at the dining table and began eating.
Seeing that she really didn't care if they ate her food, Wu Lian hesitated for a moment before glancing at the food and swallowing hard. After a moment of hesitation, he said, "Let's eat first."
At his words, the soldiers' eyes lit up. They quickly grabbed plates and bowls, forming a line in front of the counter to serve themselves.
While eating, the young soldier lowered his head, and a few tears silently fell into his bowl. Embarrassed, he kept his head down, not daring to make a sound as he hungrily devoured the
food.
After finishing her lunch, Yao Ran went to check on Ling Yi and Yuan Rihui. Seeing that they were still unconscious, she refilled the water and ice for the portable air conditioner before leaving. Next, she headed to the water storage room to fill the remaining empty water tanks. With the addition of more than 30 people, water consumption would increase significantly. Before her friends arrived, she needed to ensure all the tanks were full and that the hydroponic room's vegetables, fruit trees, and staple crops were enough to supply them.
Although Yao Ran can bring food out of her space, she still needs to do all of these so that she will not be suspected.
While Yao Ran worked and trained her abilities, Wu Lian and the soldiers finished their meal and cleaned up the dishes. For the first time since the natural disasters struck the world, Wu Lian and his team felt full.
In the evening, Yao Ran left the hydroponic room only to find Wu Lian and the others waiting for her in the main hall.
"Captain Wu, do you need something?" she asked with a hint of curiosity in her voice.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Wu Lian smiled and replied, "Miss Yao, may we use the side hall as our living quarters while we stay here?"
Confused by his request, Yao Ran said, "There are plenty of empty bedrooms in the living area. You can use those instead of sleeping in the side hall. Apart from the first and second bedrooms, the others are unoccupied. Feel free to use them."
Surprised to learn the bedrooms were available for them to use, Wu Lian paused for a few moments before saying, "Thank you."
Yao Ran nodded, stifled a yawn, and added, "I'm going to rest now. If you get hungry, feel free to use the kitchen and cook something for yourselves."
With that, she yawned again and returned to her bedroom.
Watching her retreating figure, the young soldier muttered, "Sister Yao is really generous." Hearing this, Wu Lian raised an eyebrow and teased, "Not bad, ah. You have already gotten closer to her, and she even let you call her 'sister' after just a few hours."
The young soldier grinned sheepishly at Wu Lian's teasing and quickly explained, "Sister Yao thinks I'm younger than her, so she is treating me as a younger brother and kind to me." After saying that, he asked, "Captain, should we stay in the side hall or the living area?"
Wu Lian thought for a moment before deciding, "We will follow her instructions and stay in the living area. When Long Yu returns, I will discuss our mission with him. Hopefully, we can get his help to kill the mutant rat king."
After making the decision, they went to choose their bedrooms. The rooms were spacious, each capable of accommodating more than six to eight people. Looking at the four bunk beds, Wu Lian quickly assigned rooms to the soldiers.
That night, the soldiers enjoyed their first showers in three months before heading to the kitchen to make a few packs of self-heating hotpot and instant noodles for dinner. By then, Yao Ran was already fast asleep.
The next morning, Yao Ran woke up early and went to the infirmary to check on Ling Yi and Yuan Rihui, only to find their beds empty. Frowning, she left the infirmary to look for them.
After searching for a while, Yao Ran found them having breakfast with Wu Lian and the soldiers. From a distance, she noticed the bright, loving look Ling Yi gave Wu Lian as if he was a treasure.
Raising her eyebrows slightly, Yao Ran approached the group.
Sitting facing each other, Wu Lian shook hands with Ling Yi and said, "Then it's decided. Please deliver the water as soon as possible. I will write a letter for Commander Xu. Just hand it to him, and he will pay you according to our agreement."
Ling Yi nodded with a smile and said, "Alright. I will send the water to Juncheng Military Base as soon as possible."
As they finalized their deal, Wu Lian noticed Yao Ran approaching and greeted her, "Good morning, Miss Yao."
"Good morning," she replied, then turned to Ling Yi and Yuan Rihui. She said, "Boss Ling, Brother Yuan, are you two feeling better now?"
Seeing her, Ling Yi and Yuan Rihui quickly stood, bowed to her, and sincerely said, "Thank you, Miss Yao, for saving our lives. We are feeling much better now."
