Chapter 85 Abyss (Part Four) (Long chapter, seeking monthly votes!)
"Snap."
With a flick of his thumb, the man in sunglasses turned off the "β Frequency Generator" and looked up thoughtfully.
Judging by the extent of the "battlefield" around him, he was ninety percent sure that the culprit was the Transcendent who had destroyed the Henghui Group one month ago.
"Finally showing up again."
The corners of his mouth slowly curved upward.
With a grand gesture, the man in sunglasses commanded, "No need to kill them one by one. Tomorrow morning, hang everyone on the list on the city wall."
"Yes!"
...
"Squeak, squeak, squeak..."
The next day, early morning.
Chen Yu, lying in bed, was awakened by a strange noise.
Half-asleep, he raised his hand to block the glaring sunlight coming from the window, sat up groggily, and looked toward the source of the noise.
He saw two rats right in front of him, mating.
Chen Yu: "..."
The two rats: "Squeak, squeak... Nice... Squeak..."
Chen Yu: "..."
Suddenly fully alert, Chen Yu widened his eyes.
Had he just heard the rats speak?
Rubbing his face vigorously, Chen Yu quickly leaned over the side of the bed, ear turned, listening intently.
"Squeak—"
"Squeak, squeak."
Then only the unique sound of rats remained.
"It seems I heard wrong."
Yawning, Chen Yu got out of bed, kicked the two rats away, then put on his clothes and stepped out the door.
He saw Ms. Chen sitting on the couch watching TV.
Chen was busy in the kitchen making breakfast.
"Sis, there are rats in my room," said Chen Yu, "I moved everything upstairs, so how are there still rats?"
"Still rats? That shouldn't be," Chen turned around in surprise.
"Damn," Chen Yu was startled, "Did you fertilize your front teeth?"
"Bullshit!" Chen, showing her front teeth, spoke with a lisp.
"Sis, I need to go to West Mountain in a few days. Can you come with me?"
"Why?"
"I need to borrow your front teeth to help me dig a grave."
"Go to hell!"
Chen, furious, grabbed the rolling pin from the chopping board and hurled it at Chen Yu.
"Snap!"
Chen Yu caught it with a raised hand.
"Hiss!"
The tingling pain in his palm left Chen Yu dumbfounded, "So you've got that much strength."
"Your sister has always been strong," Ms. Chen remarked from the couch, cracking sunflower seeds while not taking her eyes off the TV, "Didn't she always help you fight when you were young." Read new chapters at empire
Chen Yu: "...Mom, your TV is off."
"I can't see anyway," Ms. Chen chewed on the sunflower seeds, staring at the TV, "Does keeping it off save electricity?"
"That makes so much sense!" Chen Yu realized.
Ten minutes later.
Breakfast was served.
Chen Yu sat by the window, looking around, "Is our family missing someone? Where's Dad?"
"He went for a walk," Chen, chewing her food with a pained expression, said.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Her front teeth were too long, making it very inconvenient to eat.
"When did your front teeth start growing?" Chen Yu frowned. Something seemed off.
"About half a month ago. Maybe longer, I didn't notice," Chen touched her front teeth, trying to cover them with her lips, "It's fine, I can cover them."
"Let's check it out at the dentist this afternoon," Chen Yu suggested.
"The city is too chaotic now," Chen sighed, putting down her utensils, "What dental office is open? Even the hospitals are closed."
"Then come with me to the capital city."
"We'll talk about it later..."
After eating.
Chen Yu left the house, walked downstairs, hands in his pockets, and prepared to stroll around the city market.
His hat was still not big enough.
The left side showed the character for "no."
The right side showed the character for "hands."
It looked quite awkward.
His father and sister had seen it, and although they didn't ask much, their glances made him very uncomfortable.
Chen repeated several times, "Although you might have some abilities now, the righteous path in life is fraught with hardships..."
"..."
"Truly maddening."
Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a piece of wire, wrapped it around his hat to secure it on his head, and quickened his pace.
But after only a few streets, he slowed down, his expression growing grim.
The city... was empty.
On his way, at least a kilometer, he had not seen a single car or person.
Eerily silent.
Chen Yu stood still, thoughts racing for a moment before suddenly turning his head to look North.
"This is bad!"
...
Hecheng.
North City Gate.
The surrounding buildings, whether large or small shops, had all been leveled overnight.
More than five thousand citizens gathered in this "temporary plaza," watching as their fellow citizens were continually hung on the wall in front of them.
Everyone was silent.
The scene was eerily quiet.
"Bang!"
Suddenly, a gunshot pierced the sky. A figure kneeling fell to the ground.
The man in sunglasses with a straw hat tucked away the revolver, opened the cylinder to check the bullets, "Hang."
"Yes!"
A burly man bowed respectfully, then picked up a bundle of rope from the rack, skillfully tied up the hands of the shot citizen, and threw the other end upwards.
"Snap."
The person on top of the city wall caught the rope and began to pull.
"Squeak—"
"Crack."
Swinging in the wind, he was slowly hoisted up.
Due to the pull of gravity, it wasn't long before his arms and shoulders dislocated.
The man in sunglasses pushed up his nosepiece, his expression steady, as he filled the revolver with bullets, aimed at one of the many figures kneeling on the ground, and pulled the trigger.
"Bang!!"
"Hang."
"Yes!"
The people in the plaza, one by one, remained expressionless and silent...
"Swish."
After rotating the cylinder of the revolver, the man in sunglasses crossed his arms and looked up at the sun in the sky.
He was starting to feel hot.
