Legendary Shelter Survival Guide

Chapter 54 Catching up and future plans

It took a while for Lucas to get a hold of his emotions. In his whole life, he hadn't felt pain as extreme as this one.

He had the feeling that keeping it untreated was less painful than this treatment.

"Sorry for all this, Sigh... I am embarrassed now." Lucas said while he kept using his hand. His face had an awkward chuckle.

"Embarrassed? Boy, you are the bravest man I have ever seen. The way you took that pain, even I would scream to the top of my lungs if this happened to me." John said in appreciation. Lucas could tell that John was saying all this with honesty.

"Well... even I didn't know I had a high pain tolerance."

Lucas finally looked at Aunt Ella, he was going to thank her but saw that she was already in a half-asleep condition.

"Uhh... Aunt Ella?" Lucas kept a hand on her shoulder that made her eyes open again in surprise. Without saying anything, she looked at his hand which was all fixed, and had a relieved expression.

"Thanks, Aunt Ella, imagine fixing this without her, guys," Lucas said with a smile. He finally got up and let John take care of Ella who was very weak from excess mana use.

"It's a relief that the wound got fixed quickly, when I saw your hand, I thought it would take about two to three days on average for it to be fixed."

"I got a lesson today to not lose focus on a battlefield. It still gives me shivers when I think how that Coyate bit my hand... that jaw was really strong."

After Ella forced herself to heal Sean when everyone including him was reluctant. She fell unconscious and John had to take her inside the shelter for some rest.

Lucas promised everyone to tell them everything about their trip later but he had to sleep for a while. All that movement and killing the firebird before had made him very tired and so did John.

The three of them slept inside the shelter, Lucas in a corner while John and Ella were together. The other three were given a task to bring all the bodies of the coyates inside the shelter's defense and wake them up when the work was done.

It took them all around an hour to bring them all inside, the Coyates outside were 22 in total and it made the trio wonder how many were killed by Lucas even after his hand was messed up to this extent.

Lucas and the two were woken up by the trio and they finally roasted their first meal on the fire made by Sarah. They all ate and talked, both groups telling their experiences to one another.

After a few minutes of talking, the trio was already very surprised.

"You did a dungeon without us? And a firebird was the Boss monster? Damn..." Sean spoke and Barney felt the same. Sarah didn't say anything and decided to just listen to all.

"We didn't have time, there were many going inside the dungeon so we had to be quick. Every other animal or monster that went in had already died before we came. You won't believe how much your mother helped with the traps."

After the comment, another storytelling had started about how Ella saved the day making both John and Barney surprised.

While they were talking, many creatures of different kinds had taken the whiff of the dense blood that covered the shelter's ground.

None of them even attempted to approach, their desire to enter extinguished by the overpowering stench of blood. It terrified them, leaving them questioning who could have committed such a massacre. Even the two kobolds had the sense that something happened but did not act as they were too busy with their own hunts.

"Woah... if I use this, imagine what would happen, Barney." Sean had Lucas's sword in his hand, he marveled over the fact that the three after leaving got all this.

"Nothing, cause its mine." Lucas took the sword back but felt strange thinking that something was missing.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

"Shit, I left the scabbard in the forest." Lucas got up but was stopped by Sarah. When they were bringing the corpses inside the defenses, she found the scabbard and brought it back thinking it may belong to someone in the group.

"Thanks."

"Everything is normal now, but what will we do with all these corpses?" John said while massaging his temples. The corpses were all tossed at a corner and had formed a small hill.

"We might have to trade it with others, keeping all this will do us no good. We have no storage."

That was true, they had no storage to keep all the corpses preserved.

"Trade huh... I think I might have an idea..." John muttered while thinking.

"What is it, honey?"

"Oh, remember when we use to smoke the meat? It made the meat last for four days in the forest."

John stopped and spoke again when Ella got the idea of what he was thinking.

"It will become a better trade and we can ask for much better things from others for pieces of smoked meat we prepare. This way, we also get better stuff and the others will have food security for a few days."

Lucas's eyes widened in surprise, it was a good idea. This way, he had the opportunity to trade with his father and mother on the same level and not make them take care of him only one-sidedly.

Excited by the idea, Lucas chimed in, "That's brilliant, Uncle John! If we start smoking meat and offering it as a trade, we can have a valuable resource to exchange with others. It's a win-win situation for everyone who is going to get involved with us... But how do we smoke the meat?"
