Chapter 47 Firebird (2)
When Lucas looked back, he saw a small silhouette at an astonishing speed moving toward the fireball that was going to hit him anytime.
The silhouette even got in contact with one of the fireballs and suddenly, just after the contact, the fireball that got hit dispersed out of existence with a pop sound.
Lucas looked at the speedy silhouette move from one part of the chamber to another swiftly until the momentum was gone and it couldn't fly anymore.
"Dodge Damnit! I didn't do that for nothing... Huff... Huff..."
Lucas didn't respond and snapped back to reality, the fireball was getting close every second but this time he was far from that one. Whatever John did, he had already taken care of one of the fireballs that was going to be a pain in the ass.
His eyes darted toward John who had done something that Lucas didn't know he could do with his skill. But after looking at him, one thing became clear, John was huffing in exhaustion making Lucas wonder if he had run for a few hours.
SHRRIEEEKKK!!!!
"S-Shit!" Lucas exclaimed while keeping his hands on his ears. The firebird had screamed so loud that he felt his eardrums would tear any moment.
Before the firebird could do anything more, Lucas had started running toward John who was still looking in bad shape.
In 7 seconds, he had traveled toward him even when he was considerably far. It made Lucsa wonder for a second whether his speed had increased due to all this leveling up.
"Are you alright?" Lucas crouched and placed his hand on John's shoulder in order to give some support. The man was clearly not in a good condition, beads of sweat were falling off his head.
"Huff... Huff... That attack... was taxing... Can't do it again for a while..."
"Don't speak, just rest. I will think of something."
Lucas didn't wasn't John to do any unnecessary action, the man was clearly suffering from using a lot of mana at the same time. It had happened to Lucas, around five days back when he used the shield of the shelter twice after each cooldown to show off.
He had a very bad time after that, but he didn't let anyone know about it thinking that the main purpose would go in vain.
'It will take him a few minutes and mana regeneration of some points to get back to normal.' Lucas thought while looking at the firebird who was staring daggers into him.
"He should also have a limit, if this thing keeps spitting those fireballs all day, we won't reach any conclusion."
Lucas grumbled under his breath, all this running had also made him tired but it was bearable. Also, the adrenaline from his extra blood pumping helped a lot.
It was hard to look at the bird's eyes as it was very far but after some extra squinting, Lucas couldn't help but think whether the bird was looking at him with hatred or John.
The firebird gave a war cry while pushing its head up in the air, it went into a position while flying that Lucas was familiar with. The bird was going to come down.
Under normal circumstances, that would have been a bad thing, but the firebird was more dangerous if left far above.
"What to do... What to do..." Lucas kept murmuring, he couldn't run away from John as he wasn't sure whether it will attack John when he is vulnerable.
"Huff..." A deep breath came from behind, Lucas saw John getting up while grunting as if his back was paining but that wasn't the case. John's whole body felt weak, weaker than when someone's blood pressure is really low.
"... one chance..."
"Hm!"
"... ONE chance," Joh spoke, Lucas was surprised after looking into his eyes. The will to fight in them was intoxicating which made Lucas have another adrenaline rush, this time not from the body but the will.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
John stood straight and stared at Lucas's spear. His hand moved above and he started gritting his teeth while his lips were lifted.
"Woah!" Lucas looked at his spear and the hair on his hand that were flying, even his hand and arms felt fresh with the breezes.
Lucas looked at the spear and couldn't help but squeal. The winds had started moving in circles around his spear's head.
Lucas didn't say anything, whatever John was doing, it was taxing as before. Concentration was the main key for skills like Wind manipulation and Telekinesis. One concentration loss and a series of failures awaited the user.
He looked up and saw that the bird was still away even when it was flying at a good pace downward. Lucas felt like it was trying to restrict its speed so that it won't smack on the ground from the force at which it was going down.
He looked at his spear again and the results were surprising. The spear's head had a transparent coating over it that didn't seem to stop moving. Lucas could see that they were strands of winds moving at a high pace after collecting at one place due to John.
"... You get one try, stab don't slash.... And don't move even a step." John said and stopped. He said the whole thing speedily as an explanation was important.
"I already had the gist, don't worry," Lucas said and looked at the spear with regained confidence. He continued with a cheeky grin, "I don't feel like losing today."
The bird that was flying downward all this while finally started flapping its wings furiously about a few meters above the ground. Its momentum stopped but the attack hadn't.
It moved its head in the duo's direction and started flying speedily toward them.
"One chance," John spoke again but Lucas didn't respond. All he could see was the bird flying toward him. It was intimidating but still, he sent all the negative thoughts at the back of his head not risking to close it off at this important and dangerous moment.
The firebird didn't stop even after seeing the spear in Lucas's eyes. It could obviously feel the winds circling fast around it but arrogance was a double-edged sword that the birdie hadn't realized.
