Chapter 658: Chapter 658 - A Duel Postponed, A Chase Begun

Broken sat in the rear section of the crawling carriage, enclosed within the mechanical shell of Beebot.

The journey to the capital stretched on, and every passing second gnawed at his patience. He hated the waiting-every moment felt like an eternity.

He couldn't stop his thoughts from spiraling. What kind of shape would the Dissidia Kingdom be in by the time he arrived? Would the capital already be reduced to rubble?

The weight of the possibilities pressed down on him, intensifying the stress coiling in his chest. Reports were already flooding in about demons converging on the capital from all directions.

The reality of the situation was overwhelming. He hadn't expected the attack to be this massive. Thankfully, most of the Vensalor Guild members were stationed at the capital, providing critical support to keep the city from falling.

At least, for now.

But what about the King? And the Imperial Knights? They weren't forces to be underestimated. With their strength and experience, the kingdom's defenses should, theoretically, be formidable. Shouldn't this be a straightforward victory if they intervened?

Yet Broken knew better than to underestimate the enemy.

A calculated assault like this wouldn't happen without extensive planning. The opposing forces wouldn't blindly throw demons into battle without considering the King's power and his elite knights.

The demons appearing thus far, averaging levels in the 2005, were likely just the first wave-a prelude. It wasn't hard to deduce that the real threat hadn't shown its face yet.

And then there were the 4 Named Demons, each ranked in the 50s.

He had faced one before in a similar ranking-Gremory-and the sheer terror of that encounter was something he could never forget. A haunting reminder of just how overwhelming such a battle could be.

If Gremory's power was anything to go by, facing a Named Demon in an open field would have been an entirely different nightmare. Even in a controlled environment, he had to die multiple times before he finally managed to scrape together every ounce of his power and strategy to defeat it.

But now? Four Named Demons?

The thought made his stomach twist. This was a battle on an entirely different scale, one he couldn't imagine surviving without losses.

"Broken!"

A sharp voice echoed through the room just as Broken was about to bring his hammer down on the glowing anvil. He stopped mid-swing, his head snapping up as Pawpaw materialized atop the anvil.

"Princess Alora is in a hard battle," the little cat said.

"Then go to her!" he responded immediately.

Pawpaw's tail swayed. "Are you sure? The monsters on this journey aren't more... appetizing than the ones at the capital?"

"There are a lot of demons at the capital. What do you think?"

"Meow!" Pawpaw purred. "I do want to eat a lot of demons."

"Then assist her already."

With a flicker of shadow, Pawpaw's form dissolved into darkness, vanishing completely. Broken's grip tightened on his hammer as he stared at the empty space where Pawpaw had stood.

In all the time he'd acquired the spirit beast, Pawpaw had never suddenly appeared to deliver a warning about Princess Alora.

For him to claim that Princess Alora needed help meant something serious was happening- something dire enough that her two elite knight protectors couldn't handle it alone.

His knuckles turned white as his grip on the hammer grew more tense.

"If only this stupid journey didn't have to take so damn long!" he growled under his breath.

Broken couldn't focus on his crafting. Every update that popped up in the guild chat pulled his attention, distracting him with escalating reports.

He gritted his teeth, hammer poised mid-air, as another update came through.

Elincia and Ivana-they had been intercepted by someone from the Horde of Hell Guild.

That stopped him cold. If the Horde of Hell was putting in extra effort to delay them before they even reached the capital.

This wasn't a random attack. It was part of a carefully orchestrated plan.

The credit, of course, went to the Guild Master of the Horde of Hell-Galactron.

Many said his brilliance rivaled even Maylock, the Vensalor Guild's own tactical genius.

But, before Broken could dwell on the thought...

The carriage jolted to an unexpected stop. He was thrown slightly forward by the abrupt halt, a cold realization hitting him.

Something or someone had stopped Beebot.

Without hesitation, Broken flung open the rear door, vaulted onto the top of the carriage, and strode quickly to the front. Standing in Beebot's path was a lone figure-a player.

The person blocking the way was a boy, barely in his teens, likely around the same age as Livelywood or Melliandra.

His brown hair was a disheveled mess, giving him a careless appearance. He wore a flowing magic robe in hues of black and green. Beside him hovered a grimoire, its pages flipping open and closed as if alive.

Above the boy's head floated a name that carried a clear and undeniable threat:

Galactron.

The Gluttony Champion. The leader of the Horde of Hell Guild. A Unique-grade Class holder. And a Necromancer.

"Broken..."

The boy's voice wasn't loud, but in the stillness of the desert air, it carried clearly.

"I came alone... just for you," he said, his tone flat.

Of course. If the Horde of Hell had sent one of their Gluttony Champions to intercept Elincia

and Ivana, it was only natural they'd do the same for Broken.

And who better for the task than their guildmaster himself? Here he was-their welcoming committee, in the form of Galactron.

Broken's eyes narrowed slightly, though his tone remained casual.

"I'm in a bit of a hurry. Can you move? Because if you don't..." He gestured to his crawling

carriage. "...this living, breathing piece of metal is going to run you over."

"Oh, yeah..." Galactron replied. "The carriage is pretty cool. A Golem, right?"n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

"Yes. Wanna ride?"

Galactron tilted his head slightly.

"That's a tempting offer... but not today. There's something else I have to do right now."

"Well then, by all means, carry on. I won't stop you." Broken shrugged.

"Can't..." Galactron replied. "Because it involves you."

"Oh, really?" Broken asked, still calm. "Make it quick. I'm in a hurry."

Galactron's tone shifted slightly, louder now. "Broken... let's fight to the death."

There it was. He'd already guessed Galactron was here for him, but now the guildmaster was making it official.

The problem wasn't the challenge itself. It was Galactron's reputation. The boy was infamous for his brilliance and power, both of which made any fight with him a dangerous time sink.

He wasn't afraid, but he couldn't afford to let Galactron's intent-to delay him-succeed.

"That's an interesting offer," Broken muttered.

Galactron replied. "Alright then, let's do it. I promise to give it my all in this fight... but

please, don't disappoint me."

Broken leaped in front of Beebot, the crawling carriage vanishing in an instant as his boots hit the ground. He stood tall, facing Galactron, before a sly grin crept across his face.

"But," he continued, "I think we can save this for another day."

Without waiting for a reaction, Broken leaped backward as Polly materialized beside him, her

massive wings spreading wide in a single, graceful motion.

Broken timed his move perfectly, vaulting onto Polly's back just as she began to beat her

wings. With a powerful burst, the flying fox launched into the sky at incredible speed.

"Well, I wonder... will running from him really be this easy?" Broken thought to himself,

glancing back briefly.

As his gaze shifted to Galactron, his heart sank.

Near the boy, a magic circle had appeared. Not just any magic circle-this one was fucking massive, glowing with ominous green runes that pulsed across the desert floor.

From within the circle, shadows began to rise, twisting and writhing as green energy surged through them. Slowly, something emerged-something monstrous.

It was hell itself made manifest.

A massive skeletal dragon, its colossal form dripping with shadow energy, its bones glowing faintly with an eerie green aura, climbed forth from the circle.

Its form was so large and clear against the barren desert that it seemed to dominate the land.

Broken's breath caught as he watched Galactron float, seemingly sucked into the dragon's

body. And then-

The skeleton dragon's massive wings unfurled with a deafening crack, sending a gust of wind

rippling through the air.

It flapped once, twice, and then it too ascended, soaring after Broken with terrifying speed. "Are you kidding me?!" Broken growled, gripping Polly tighter as the chase began.
