Chapter 656: Chapter 656 - The Princess and Her Demon Ally

SpeedGang's private domain was perfectly tailored for his task-keeping Princess Alora trapped for as long as possible. His objective was simple: delay her until the throne takeover was complete. Once that was done, his job would be over.

He smirked, confident this would be an easy assignment. With a casual demeanor, he sat on the ground, resting his massive shield by his side. Across from him, Alora stood, her sword gleaming in the faint light of the domain.

"What? Why are you just standing there?" he asked mockingly, spreading his arms wide. "Come on, attack me! Ha ha ha ha!"

Alora remained silent, her jaw clenched in frustration. Her quiet defiance only fueled his amusement.

"Let me explain how this works. Since we're going to be stuck here for a while, you might as well know the rules I've set for this domain. Oh, and yes, I can adjust them as needed," he added with a smug wave of his hand.

"First!" he announced, holding up a finger dramatically. "Universal Movement Restriction. Everyone in this domain-yes, that includes summoned beasts-is affected by a weighing and damage-over-time effect tied to their speed. The faster you try to move, the heavier the burden, and the greater the pain. So don't even think about trying to outmaneuver me."

He paused, letting words sink in, then raised a second finger.

"Second! Damage Reflection. Any physical attack made in this domain will reflect a portion of its damage back to the attacker. The faster your strikes, the more you'll hurt yourself. Brilliant, isn't it?"

SpeedGang leaned back, pulling a bottle of tea from his inventory as if this were nothing more than a picnic. He took a leisurely sip before flashing her another smirk.

"Well, that's it—just two rules. Simple, effective, and perfectly tailored for this situation. So, have fun trying to figure out a way out of this. Oh, by the way," he added, holding out the bottle. "Care for some tea?"

SpeedGang leaned back, still watching Princess Alora as she gripped her sword tightly.

A shame, really, that she was so closely tied to that stupid pest, Broken!

If only their allegiances didn't clash. It might've been easier for him to approach someone like her under different circumstances. From this close, even SpeedGang couldn't deny her beauty.

But then again, what did it matter? With power and influence, beautiful women were never hard to come by—especially in Yunatea. As long as you held control and wielded strength, everything else fell into place.

He glanced at the system clock, letting out a sigh. The minutes dragged on endlessly. He could check the live broadcast of the battle outside, but honestly, he couldn't be bothered. It was all so... dull.

His eyes drifted to the edge of the domain, where the Grand Cross Knight, some stupid NPC, was still hammering away uselessly, trying to breach the barrier.

"What an idiot," SpeedGang muttered to himself, shaking his head. "You think you can break this domain? Stupid. Just... stupid!"

He took another sip of tea, his frustration turning into boredom. Honestly, this whole war felt like a joke. Look at him-sitting comfortably, sipping tea, and effortlessly trapping one of the most significant individuals in the conflict.

If this was supposed to be a war, where was the thrill? The challenge?

He scoffed, wondering if this tedious state of affairs was because Maylock had taken a break from the game. Without that wildcard stirring the pot, maybe even their so-called enemies, the Vensalor Guild-led by that clueless guildmaster-had lost their edge.

Was everyone as brainless as the Grand Cross Knight out there?

With a small chuckle, he turned his gaze back to Princess Alora, his lips curling into a sly smile.

"Those Named Demons are incredibly powerful," he said with a sigh, his tone almost casual. "I can't imagine how this kingdom will hold out against them."

A faint smile curved his lips. "Well, once this is over, a new era in Yunatea will begin. And I'm certain we-the victorious-will reap countless benefits from it. Don't you think that's exciting, Princess?"

He glanced at Alora, but her expression remained flat.

"Why don't we have a little chat?" he continued. "Like... oh, I don't know... discussing the sheer stupidity of a man named Broken?"

SpeedGang noticed the sudden shift in Alora's expression, her once-calm demeanor breaking into something fierce and resolute.

Oh, was she provoked?

Alora gritted her teeth, and a burst of energy erupted from her body. She raised the heel of her right foot and stepped forward-one determined step.

"Oh? A step? Impressive!" SpeedGang chuckled, tilting his head mockingly. "You know, you're just going to run out of stamina and collapse if you keep pushing yourself."

Ignoring him, Alora clenched her teeth harder and took another step, her body trembling with strain. The energy around her intensified, forming a blazing aura that wrapped her entirely.

Then, with a fierce stomp, she launched herself forward in a burst of speed-but just as quickly, she crashed to the ground with a loud impact. Her sword dug into the floor as she used it to stop herself from falling completely.

SpeedGang watched with amusement as blood trickled from her mouth and even her eyes, her fiery gaze never faltering despite her obvious agony.

"See?" SpeedGang said casually, sipping his tea. "You're only hurting yourself. It's pointless. And..." he gestured lazily at the distance between them, "you'll pass out long before you get close enough to reach me."

For several agonizing moments, Alora kept trying, pushing forward step by painful step, her aura crackling violently around her.

SpeedGang leaned back, shaking his head. "Ah... is this princess really that stupid?"

He stared at her, blood streaming from her mouth and nose, pooling around her trembling frame. She looked like she'd keel over at any moment.

Surely she wouldn't die, though-right? She wasn't that fragile.

Just as he shifted to lie on his side, ready to mock her further, something caught his eye.

A black-and-red magic circle suddenly materialized on the ground between him and Alora.

SpeedGang froze, sitting up abruptly.

"What is that?" he muttered.

From the magic circle, a small figure emerged. SpeedGang squinted, his eyes narrowing as he tried to make sense of it. A cat-a small, black creature with tiny horns protruding from its head-stepped out, its tail flicking lazily.

"A Demon Beast?" SpeedGang muttered in confusion.

At the same moment, Alora stopped her agonizing attempts to move forward. She remained

in place, wiping the blood off her face with a steady hand.

"Oh, Princess Alora," the cat purred in a playful tone. "I felt your pain and came over. It seems I've arrived just in time."

"Hi, Pawpaw," Alora said softly. "I'm sorry I had to bring you here like this..."

"Oh, no need for apologies," Pawpaw said with a toothy grin. "It's my job as your protector."

"What is that?!" SpeedGang barked. "Since when do you have a summoned Demon Beast?"

But then, SpeedGang froze, his eyes widening in shock.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

"Wait a minute... is this that Demon Beast? The one Broken owns? How is it here?!"

"Oh, this little piece of trash hurt you, Princess?" Pawpaw said.

"No, I hurt myself."

"Oh, but because of him, right?"

"Because I'm trapped in this domain."

"Well..." SpeedGang tried to regain his composure. "It doesn't matter! Even if you summoned ten beasts, it wouldn't change anything. The rules of this domain still apply!"

Before he could gloat further, Pawpaw melted into the shadows beneath him, vanishing in an instant. Moments later, the cat re-emerged directly in front of SpeedGang, springing from his

own shadow.

"Oh? So the rules don't apply to teleportation?" Pawpaw said with a sly laugh. "Interesting!"

SpeedGang's smugness evaporated as panic set in. He scrambled to grab his shield.

"If you attack me, you'll just hurt yourself! My reflection rule will-"

"Really?" Pawpaw interrupted.

Turning back to Alora, the cat raised his voice. "Princess, may I devour this player?"

"Yes, Pawpaw," Alora said. "Do whatever you like."

In an instant, tendrils of shadow erupted from Pawpaw's body, snaking toward SpeedGang.

The dark tendrils wrapped around him tightly, cocooning him in seconds. "What are you doing?!" SpeedGang screamed, struggling against the restraints. "Well," Pawpaw said, his tone as casual as if he were discussing the weather, "I'm not attacking you. I'm just... draining your health. That's an entirely different thing."
