Chapter 1342: The Mysterious Appearance of Humans
Chapter 1342: The Mysterious Appearance of Humans
As Celebi and Nana returned to the Pioneer Corps camp, Politoed also arrived at the Misty Lake—it had come personally to meet Swampert.
Gazing at the mysterious lake shrouded in dense fog, a glimmer of nostalgia flashed in Politoed's eyes.
"Politoed~"
It didn't step into the Misty Lake but stood at the edge, calling out into the thick mist. After all, it was no longer a Pokémon of the Misty Lake.
Before long, the sound of water echoed from within the fog, and Swampert's massive figure slowly emerged from the water.
Seeing Politoed, Swampert looked a bit surprised because it was rare for Politoed to visit it alone.
"Politoed~"
I have something important to tell you—the Guli Mountain Range are in trouble!
Swampert, being of a quiet and reserved nature, beckoned Politoed with a gesture before disappearing back into the dense mist. Politoed had no choice but to follow.
Passing through the fog, Politoed and Swampert reached a small island in the center of the Misty Lake, where they found the unconscious Sceptile.
"Politoed~"
Sceptile is here?!
Politoed exclaimed in disbelief. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Swampert~"
What did you want to say? What's happening in the Guli Mountains?
Hearing Swampert's voice, Politoed snapped out of its shock and recounted everything it knew to Swampert.
After listening, Swampert fell into a grim silence. The disappearance of the Three Regis... That's no small matter. And the changes with Houndoom...
Swampert glanced at the unconscious Sceptile nearby and thought to itself, How much of this is connected to Sceptile's condition?
"Politoed~"
Um... How did Sceptile end up here?
Politoed asked cautiously, fearing Swampert might misunderstand its intentions.
Swampert responded by recounting how it had found Sceptile.
"Politoed~"
I think Sceptile must know something. If only it were awake.
Politoed said gravely, staring at the unconscious Sceptile.
To inflict this level of injury on Sceptile isn't something an ordinary Pokémon could manage; it had to be at least one of the mountain ruler, or maybe even more than one.
If it were just one opponent, Sceptile could've escaped without a problem.
Unfortunately, Sceptile's injuries were severe, leaving it in near death situation. If not for Swampert's meticulous care, it likely wouldn't have survived. Holding out hope that Sceptile could wake up and explain what happened seemed unlikely.
Swampert was also troubled. Although it seldom involved itself in matters of the Guli Mountains, it didn't wish for any mountain ruler to fall.
If any one of them were to be harmed, it could disrupt the balance of the Guli Mountains.
Should the Guli Mountains descend into chaos, wild Pokémon from outside could seize the opportunity to invade.
After a long silence, Politoed suddenly spoke up. "Can we ask the humans for help? They might have a way to heal Sceptile."
Although neither of them wanted to admit it, both Politoed and Swampert knew that humans had unparalleled talent in invention and creation. The technologies they mastered, such as medical techniques, were beyond what Pokémon could achieve.
While Pokémon had various healing abilities, these skills were often ineffective for critically injured Pokémon. In contrast, human medicine had the power to "bring the dead back to life."
The rulers of the Guli Mountains had been dealing with humans for a long time, so they naturally had a certain understanding of them.
"Swampert~"
Ask humans for help? Will they even agree to it?
Swampert asked uncertainly.
"Politoad~ Politoad~"
They will, they will. Although we've always had conflicts with them, our existence is crucial for their defense against Pokémon from the wilderness. They wouldn't want anything to happen to us.
Politoad replied confidently.
This fact was well understood among the many rulers. Although they had clashed with the Pioneer Corps numerous times, neither side had ever truly fallen out.
This was partly because of the presence of the three Regis, but more importantly, both sides knew not to infringe upon each other's interests.
The Pioneer Corps needed resources from the wilderness beyond Guli Mountain and relied on the rulers of the Guli Mountains to guard this defensive line. Thus, they never dared to provoke the rulersunnecessarily.
"Swampert~ Swampert~"
You are right, let's go with that plan.
Swampert agreed, nodding at Politoad's perspective. Keeping Sceptile alive and preventing it from dying was already the limit of what Swampert could do. To revive Sceptile fully, they would indeed have to rely on human capabilities.
Politoad then shared its plan to convene the other rulers to discuss the disappearance of the three Regis and Houndoom's betrayal. Swampert agreed to this idea.
Just as Swampert was preparing to send its subordinates to contact the other rulers and arrange a meeting time and location, a Poliwrath suddenly ran onto the island.
This Poliwrath was a former comrade of Politoad, equally powerful. However, lacking the potential of Politoad, it had remained with Swampert after Politoad became an ruler of the Guli Mountains.
Poliwrath who is visibly anxious, was surprised to find Politoad there. After nodding in greeting, it quickly reported to Swampert that Pokémon from the wilderness had begun to invade again.
Hearing the report, Swampert's expression grew grim. Something didn't feel right.
While wilderness Pokémon did occasionally attack the Guli Mountains, the frequency of such incursions was never this high. High-level Pokémon invading was especially rare—such incidents wouldn't occur even once in ten or fifteen days.
If Poliwrath had rushed over to alert them, it must mean a high-level Pokémon was involved!
Recently, wilderness Pokémon had been harassing Misty Lake frequently, with a frequency far surpassing previous norms. Almost every time, high-level Pokémon had been among the invaders.
"Swampert~"
Let's go check it out.
Swampert then diving into the lake. Poliwrath quickly followed.
"Politoad~ Politoad~"
I'll help too!
Politoad called out before plunging into the water with a loud splash.
Misty Lake bordered the wilderness, making it the first line of defense against wilderness Pokémon invading the Guli Mountains.
By the time Swampert and the others reached the battlefield, the fight was already in full swing. Without even looking, Swampert knew which Pokémon was responsible this time.
In the midst of the battlefield, a massive Parasect was furiously swinging its giant claws, severely injuring many of Swampert's subordinates with each strike.
This very Parasect had been leading the attacks on the Guli Mountains recently.
The Parasect was infamous in the wilderness, considered an rulers in its own right. Its strength was on par with that of Politoed, which explained its audacity to repeatedly lead invasions.
However, it had attacked too many times. By now, Swampert was utterly enraged. It had held back intentionally during previous encounters, but this Parasect still failed to recognize its limits!
"Swampert~!"
Swampert growled as it prepared to confront the intruder head-on.
Swampert roared furiously, charging into the battlefield like a massive tank. Within moments, it reached Parasect's side, raised its right arm, and delivered a devastating Ice Punch.
Parasect hastily raised its two massive claws to block with a Cross Scissor, but the moment its claws made contact with Swampert's attack, it felt an overwhelming force surge through. The next instant, Parasect was sent flying backward, with biting frost rapidly spreading across its claws.
For such a dominant, ruler-class Pokémon to be sent flying with a single strike demonstrated that Swampert truly lived up to its title as the supreme ruler of the Guli Mountains.
Swampert's exceptional natural talent, coupled with its immense brute strength—similar to Yuga's Absol—was terrifying. This attack, charged with rage, was especially devastating.
Parasect's body flew back, crashing into numerous subordinates behind it. Many of them were crushed to death upon impact, creating a shockingly gruesome scene.
This is the brutal reality of wild Pokémon battles, especially those involving territorial disputes—bloodshed is almost inevitable.
"Parasect~!"
Parasect let out a pained screech, the sound laced with uncontrollable fear. Only now did it fully realize Swampert's terrifying power and understand that it had been spared in previous encounters.
Desperately, it scrambled to its feet, letting out repeated cries. These were signals instructing its subordinates to retreat.
Swampert didn't want to let Parasect escape. However, defeating Parasect was one thing; stopping it from fleeing was another matter entirely.
When a ruler-class Pokémon is determined to escape, capturing it is no easy feat.
On an ordinary day, Parasect might have managed to flee. Unfortunately for it, today its luck had run out—there was another ruler-class Pokémon present.
"Politoed~!"
Politoed's thunderous cry rang out, and suddenly dark clouds gathered overhead. A torrential downpour followed in the next instant, accompanied by booming thunder.
Politoed's Rain Dance ability was unparalleled, even exceeding Yuga's Dragonite when it came to manipulating weather. It could be considered a signature skill, and it was precisely because of this ability that Politoed had once decided to create its marshland home.
The downpour bolstered Swampert's forces, composed entirely of Water-type Pokémon, greatly enhancing their combat strength. Parasect's fleeing subordinates were swiftly overtaken.
Parasect, too, found itself in dire straits. The mushrooms on its back, which absorbed water, became unbearably heavy after being soaked by the rain, drastically slowing its escape.
Politoed then used Bounce, launching itself high into the air. A moment later, it descended like a meteor, landing a powerful stomp directly on Parasect's forehead. Parasect howled in agony, its massive claws flailing wildly, sending mud and rainwater flying in all directions.
At that moment, Swampert arrived. As Politoed leapt off Parasect's head, Swampert followed up with another Ice Punch, striking Parasect squarely.
Even though these two rulers had long gone their separate ways, their former relationship as commander and subordinate was evident in their seamless coordination.
"Swampert~!"
Swampert's all-out punch struck Parasect, silencing its anguished cries abruptly. Its flailing pincers slowed and eventually stopped. After a brief spasm, Parasect ceased moving altogether.
A once Totem Pokémon, reigning supreme in its territory, had now met its end. The wilderness would no longer have Parasect as one of its rulers.
Swampert wasn't a bloodthirsty Pokémon. Otherwise, it wouldn't have spared Parasect multiple times before. But Parasect had pushed its luck too far.
With Parasect dead, its underlings naturally faced defeat. Some were killed, while others were captured.
However, what Swampert and Politoed didn't realize was that their battle with Parasect was being observed from a distance by two humans riding on a Crobat.
"That Swampert is terrifying. It killed a Pokémon as strong as Parasect! If we didn't have... on hand, driving Parasect out would've been impossible," a young man said nervously to the older man beside him.
The older man glanced at the young man and replied, "Do you know where we are? This is the Guli Mountains, the wilderness. How many Totem Pokémon here do you think are pushovers? And that Swampert is the first rulers of the Guli Mountains!"
Hearing this, the young man fell silent, too intimidated to respond.
The older man surveyed the battlefield from afar and sighed. Turning to the young man, he said, "Since it's over, let's leave. We didn't achieve our goal this time, so we'll need to come up with another plan."
"Understood!"
With that, the two humans disappeared on their Crobat. Swampert and Politoed remained oblivious to their presence.
The appearance of humans in the wilderness outside of the Pioneer Corps was something no one had anticipated.
After resolving the Parasect issue, Politoed and Swampert began discussing the summoning of other rulers.
Eventually, the two Pokémon decided that Swampert would send its underlings to notify the other rulers, while Politoed would escort Sceptile to the Pioneer Corps's camp for medical treatment.
Having reached an agreement, they set off on their respective tasks.
Politoed borrowed two Poliwrath from Swampert and fashioned a makeshift stretcher from branches and leaves. Quietly, it carried the unconscious Sceptile and departed.
Politoed moved discreetly, careful not to alarm any other Pokémon. It feared that the ones who had injured Sceptile might still be watching.
Two days later, Politoed and the two Poliwrath successfully arrived outside the Pioneer Corps's camp, but due to the agreement between the Pioneer Corps and the rulers of the Guli Mountains, Politoed refrained from entering the camp.
Rules are rules, and Politoed had no intention of breaking them.
"Politoad~"
"Poliwrath~"
Unable to enter, Politoed and its Poliwrath began a chorus of loud croaks. The deafening frog calls echoed over the Pioneer Corps's camp, alarming everyone, who assumed another Pokémon attack was imminent.
However, Celebi recognized Politoed's calls and soon brought Yuga to the scene.
Politoed was delighted to see Celebi. After a brief introduction, it learned about Yuga's identity and explained its purpose.
Yuga examined Sceptile's injuries and found them to be severe. Ordinary treatment methods would likely be ineffective.
Although he possessed a Max Revive capable of healing Sceptile, he refrained from acting rashly and instead notified Mr. Kaya.
While waiting for Mr. Kaya, Yuga decided to use his healing abilities to alleviate Sceptile's pain, even if only temporarily.
Thanks to his recent adventures in the forest, Yuga's Celebi's Blessing ability had greatly improved, significantly enhancing his healing powers to the level of standard Heal Pulse.
Under Yuga's care, Sceptile's pain eased, though it was far from fully healed.
Mr. Kaya soon arrived with the military medics in tow.
What do you think?
