Chapter 166 The Matter On The Other Side (3)
As her thoughts traveled toward the other being, the ground suddenly shook, and a few miniature tentacles appeared around the two of them.
Amanda scoffed inwardly and rapidly twisted her body around, destroying the tentacles before they could even reach her.
But, despite her expectations, the pieces scattered all around before finally combining into multiple miniature ones and regrowing once again.
'Just like the rest... these are also troublesome. But why is that thing not acting?' Amanda surmised with a sigh and looked upwards at the massive eye and tentacle that had not made any moves ever since her answer.
Rebecca seemed to still be doing pretty badly, but at least she could stand and defend herself. It was not all hopeless.
Evading an incoming tentacle, Amanda used her poison on it; immediately, it deteriorated, and the time it took to regrow increased, giving her a bit more leeway to move around and even help Rebecca.
However, she still felt uneasy. After all, there were thousands of eyes in the sky, with more coming. Yet, at the same time, none of them were attacking, merely staring at the two of them while they were defending against weak beings such as these tentacles. The only thing they had going for them was their speed.
They would prove a problem for anyone under Tier 2, but since they were much stronger than that, it was nothing more than target practice.
This kind of cat-and-mouse game continued for a few minutes. The evading and attacking persisted until finally, she noticed a bit of a pattern.
Each time she destroyed a tentacle, it grew back slightly smaller, to the point where, after tens of times, she would manage to destroy it completely.
Amanda put her newfound knowledge into practice and isolated a single tentacle, destroying it with her poison, waiting for it to regrow, and then continuing the cycle.
She took a glance at Rebecca, and whenever she destroyed them, they seemed to grow back to the same size—almost as if only Amanda could fully destroy them.
Nonetheless, after a few minutes of destroying the tentacle, its size decreased to a few centimeters in diameter, so she simply stepped on it, crushing it.
As that happened, the remaining tentacles around them shrunk in size a little bit. Although it might have been minimal, it was pretty noticeable to her at least.
There were still hundreds of them left, and she was not very confident in dealing with all of them before her mana ran out.
But there was one option she wanted to try, and that was to destroy them all at once. If her theory was correct, then their sizes should decrease drastically instead of minimally.
"Rebecca! Gather all of them together!" Amanda shouted and jumped into the air, attempting to float. However, it seemed like her mana was being blocked while she was in the air, not allowing her flight.
'You tentacle bastard...' She glared at the massive eye above and proceeded to jump onto the nearby rubble. Most buildings had crumbled long ago, and she was standing on piles of whatever was available.
Whether they were bodies or something else, she was too preoccupied to find out.
Rebecca listened to Amanda and blasted herself into the sky. In the next moment, she used her telekinesis to pull all the tentacles into one place, giving Amanda a bird's-eye view of every single one of them.
'Good job.' Amanda nodded to herself and summoned a ball of wind, one that seemed to be rotating fiercely. She proceeded to infuse half of the mana inside the wind ball with her poison and immediately sent it downwards, right at where all of those tentacles were gathered.
The surroundings trembled. However, it seemed like it was effective, as their regeneration had slowed down to the point where she could just continue destroying them, lessening their numbers further. Find adventures at empire
But even as she was doing this, the ominous feeling had not disappeared from her mind. She was in a trap, and she knew it. But the being above her was way too powerful for her to deal with alone, and she had not even seen its actual form.
It was a big question if even her father could do anything.
Suddenly, the ominous feeling from earlier increased manyfold, and she could see the massive tentacle begin moving until finally, it revealed a figure—or at least a part of it.
It had horrendous features; it was practically a massive green abomination covered in disgusting tentacles and eyes, all different in color and size.
Amanda wanted to vomit just from seeing it, but it was clearly not the time. The situation and its power far outweighed her disgust.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
However, as the being emerged, all of the eyes that had previously stared at her were now directed towards the being. Slowly, they all began moving towards him at a slow pace.
The pressure disappeared for a moment, and she finally did not hear Rebecca's coughing anymore. She felt a bit relieved at that. They might just survive this after all.
'Who am I kidding... we are fucked.' Amanda sighed to herself and looked down. Ever since the first time she saw that being, it was already uncertain whether she would live.
When it flew into the sky and began unleashing its eyeballs, she was sure this would be the end of her path.
She had lived a fruitful life—or so she wished to think. She spent centuries caring for her father; therefore, there were not many chances to go out and do much.
As she was lost in her thoughts, the being's voice resounded inside her mind again.
It is a pity, truly. You have quite a lot of potential for Eldritch magic. Just imagine what you could have done had you accepted my offer. An executioner, one who would be able to directly destroy someone's soul. But I suppose I gave you too much credit; you are still a child.
Amanda tilted her head at those words. However, in the next moment, the pressure once again returned, but this time, it was nothing like she had faced before. In fact, she felt exactly how she did when her father used his full power; it was frightening, to say the least.
She attempted to move but found it impossible to do so; her body was completely frozen by the pressure the being was emitting.
As that was happening, Amanda could feel the pressure getting closer and closer before finally, a man with incredibly handsome features and completely dark green hair appeared before her. His eyes seemed as though they were reflecting her own emerald eyes.
He smiled at her, and suddenly, Amanda felt someone bump into her. It was Rebecca.
She was still alive, but her breathing was extremely rough, seeming as though she would pass out at any moment. The pressure was enough to kill anyone under Tier 4; it was surprising that she even managed to hold out still.
However, the grin on the person's face only grew wider until it began morphing abnormally.
'Is this you?' Amanda asked while trying to use every single ounce of mana she had to move, but it was to no avail.
Oho, you recognize me; good. I will keep this brief, the being stated and walked up closer to them before stretching out his hands and holding them right before Amanda's and Rebecca's eyes, seemingly ready to rip them out at any moment.
Just because you two did not accept my contract does not mean I will not make you my apostles, he said with a chuckle, and suddenly, two colorless eyes appeared in the air before floating into his outstretched hands.
'Rebecca was offered a contract too...?' Amanda thought with a frown but could not see the expression on her face; only her rough breathing was heard.
The being suddenly brought the eyes closer to them, and she could see a few miniature mouths covering the entire colorless eye. It sent shivers down her spine.
Even more so since the little eyes were smiling at her with their even smaller mouths.
I, Pardoth of the east wing of Y'galtha, declare you two my apostles, he announced and brought the eyes closer. However, just before they reached them, the being froze up and suddenly backed away.
Amanda could see a clear frown on his face, but she did not know what caused it.
But the moment her unease began growing even more than before, a sudden warm pressure enveloped her. It felt familiar.
She felt like she could finally move again, and the first thing she did was turn to the one behind the warm pressure. To her surprise, it was a person she knew all too well.
A being with completely white hair and captivating black horns, one who was emitting enough pressure to twist the entire fabric of Pardoth's domain.
Amanda sighed in relief as all the previous tension that had gripped her seemed to magically vanish. A massive smile spread across her face as she muttered,
"You are late, Father."
What do you think?
