Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 603: Syvarin's Inheritance

Chapter 603: Syvarin's Inheritance

"Syvarin Ven'mir?" The white snake looked at Adam suspiciously. "He was the most powerful Magus from the material world who had signed a contract with this plane. You're saying you received his inheritance?"

"I dare not lie, my lord," replied Adam, still bowing. "I came across his inheritance on my way to a magic academy in my home planet several years ago. Thanks to that, I was able to deepen my arcane knowledge and learn many spells."

"Hmm." The snake leaned its head back, deeply gazing at Adam. "Syvarin is many things, but magnanimous isn't one of them. I find it difficult to believe that he would share his

knowledge and techniques."

Adam was at a loss for words. Just when he was about to come up with another excuse, he heard the snake say, "But perhaps that changed when he realized death was imminent. He should have bequeathed his legacy right before he died.

"What a pity. Syvarin was the most talented individual to have signed a contract with the Coil, but in the end, he was consumed by greed just like countless other Magi in that famous battle."

That famous battle? Is he talking about the battle where Magus Julian Stockholm fended off against thousands of Magi? Adam's heart raced when he thought about this.

He wanted to inquire about this battle with the snake. He wanted to know what led to the battle, exactly what happened in that battle, and how long it had been since it took place. But he knew this wasn't the right time for it. He had to be patient.

"You said you were from Tron?" The white snake asked.

Adam stood back straight, his head lowered. "Yes, my lord."

"Hmm, Tron, Tron... I do not think I've heard about such a planet," said the snake. "Perhaps it lies somewhere in the Outer Universe."

The Outer Universe... It is considered a backward region in the universe. The mana density here is low and there is a fixed ceiling beyond which a Magus cannot advance, Adam recalled the memories of the experts regarding the structure of the known universe.

The lack of sufficient mana in the planets situated in the Outer Universe caused the Magi's ranks to stagnate. The only way to advance to the higher arcane path was to journey to the Greater Universe.

But journeying to the Greater Universe wasn't easy. There were countless hurdles that a Magus had to face. That is why Adam placed such great importance on the journals left behind by the founder of the Twilight Brotherhood.

"How did you uncover Syvarin's inheritance?" The white snake asked, his voice laced with curiosity.

From Syvarin Ven'mir's memories and experience, Adam knew that this Magus was a cruel, vicious, bloodthirsty, and highly sadistic bastard. He was a villain in the truest sense of the word.

He was someone who wouldn't hesitate to slaughter hundreds of thousands of innocent mortals just so he could experiment with the creation of a spell. Moreover, Syvarin had done exactly that. Not once, but countless times.

The man was considered a scourge of the Greater Universe, but no one could do anything about it because he was strong. Very strong. Furthermore, he was also a very smart man, never picking fights with beings who were stronger than him or wielded more influence than him.

All in all, he was a classic example of someone who feared the strong and bullied the weak. Others looked down upon his ideals, but he was proud of them. He did anything and everything in his pursuit to learn the higher arcane arts.

Adam recalled the man's various life experiences and cooked up a well-elaborated excuse, "My lord, when I first laid my hands on his inheritance, I was poisoned immediately. The poison coursed through my veins and wreaked havoc in my body for weeks.

"I thought it was a trap at first, but because of my unwillingness to die, I was able to withstand the deadly poisons running rampant inside me. Before I knew it, the toxins in my body had made me immune to most poisons and I had unknowingly passed the first trial of the inheritance."

"...Yes, that indeed sounds like him," said the white snake.

"Over the next several months, I had to overcome one trial after another to unlock all the contents in the inheritance. Sometimes, I had to pass a test inside a gruesome illusion, while at other times, I had to concoct vile poisons..." Adam continued to lie with a straight face. After listening to the raven-haired youth's experience with the inheritance left behind by Syvarin, the white snake nodded its serpentine head ever so slightly.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

"I see. That would explain your proficiency with snaketongue as well as your knowledge about the various coordinates inside the Coil," said the snake.

After having explained himself and reduced any suspicions whatsoever, Adam earnestly looked at the white snake hidden in the darkness and solemnly spoke, "Great serpent, I came here with purpose-to forge a contract and gain the ability to summon your kin to my aid."

The colossal serpent let out a long, deliberate hiss. Its voice was deep and resonant as it spoke, "You tread upon sacred grounds, Adam Constantine. Many come seeking power, but few understand the weight of what they ask.

"Just because you stumbled upon Syvarin's legacy doesn't make you someone deserving of being contracted to the Coil. So, tell me, young Magus, what makes you think you're worthy?"

Adam gazed at the serpent and asked, "My lord, this might sound like a stupid question to you, but what do you think about my strength? A being as powerful as you can most certainly ascertain my power level just by glancing at my soul body."

The white snake deeply looked at the youth for a long time. He decided to entertain him a little. After all, according to him, someone who could pass the trials left behind by Syvarin would surely have some talent.

"Your soul body has the strength of someone who is a Mana Vortex Magus," he answered.

It was common knowledge that the strength of the soul body was always the same as the physical body. The former could be lower if the soul sustained a direct attack, but its strength could almost never eclipse that of the physical body.

Adam faintly smiled, "My Lord, I am but a Rank 2 - Mana Liquefaction Magus."

A long period of silence ensued, causing Adam to begin feeling nervous. Right when he was about to speak, the white snake's cold and indifferent voice echoed in the underground cave.

"For your sake, I hope that you aren't lying."

"Wait, wha-" Before Adam could even form a reply, he felt a sudden tug to his soul body.

Waves of imperceptible magical energy radiated from the giant white snake. Without the need to perform hand seals or construct magic circles, the ancient creature was casting a spell! A brilliant string revealed itself, protruding from Adam's back and disappearing deep into the unknown. Following that, a portal began to manifest around the string.

Before long, the portal had completely formed and both Adam and the white snake could faintly see the place that it led to.

Adam was completely and utterly dumbfounded when he looked into the portal. There, he could see the faint image of his dorm room back at Saratoga Castle and his physical body that

remained motionless, sitting atop the runic formation!

"No way..." he was thunderstruck by what was unfolding before his eyes.

Another loud hiss reverberated in the cave and Adam felt yet another tug at the ethereal string connecting his soul body to his physical body in the material world.

Before he knew it, his physical body came crashing through the portal and slammed right into

him!
